I'm considering going back to my trusty 410 but ammo is had to get and the price is through the roof. Is 410 reloading similar to other shotshell reloading

I've been reloading most gauges of shotshell for many years including .410. They reload same as the others. Just take a bit more care when aligning the shells in the holders. Because they are so skinny , a misaligned shell is more likely to be crushed or split. There is not as much wiggle room for them to auto correct.

I have a MEC 410 but haven't set it up yet. Years past .410 had a bad reputation as difficult to load with H110 powder being a go-to. Tiny variances in the column height of powder+wad+shot made getting a good crimp problematic. I learned recently that Lil' gun powder was developed specifically for the 410 to make loading easier. I bought some LG for other pistol calibers and will now use it when I get the 410 going.

Need to set up the 28ga as well so will probably calibrate both presses at the same time. [Different powders.]

Side note Lil gun is getting magnum velocities same as H110 with much lower pressures in calibers up to .41; H110 still rules for the big bores.
Im going to try it for .357 soon. Got 5 lbs which ought to last a while.

I also have a bunch of brass Magtech shells and wads/cards to play with as well. Cleaned out some safe queens at auction and will pick up a Silver Pigeon .410 this week as soon as FedEx shows up . . .

I load with a 3/8” dowel rod, a homemade plastic base, and a small punch. I only have one 410 so I don’t have to resize so it’s fairly simple. I did buy a roll crimper to do the ends. Can do shot, slugs, self defense all pretty easy. I make the shot cards from cereal boxes. It takes longer but no more 410 than I shoot its fine for me.
