Looks like it’s ramping up for market finally.

Watched a few videos on it so far. But like any other new round or any round for that matter, what’s the price and availability going to be?

High BC 288gr bullets at 1000fps with a suppressor looks like a great up to 400 yard deer slayer round that won’t bust your ears.

Sounds like a .338 Spectre that won’t fit an AR15. Supersonic ballistics look good till you realize there aren’t a lot of .338 bullets designed for those velocities & with the popularity of the .338 Fed <sarcasm>, I’m calling this an answer to a question that nobody asked.

Just my opinion & y’all know I like the oddballs, but I don’t get it.

In the process of building one up now. Just waiting on an adjustable gas block. Will run suppressed without a 16 inch barrel. There was a video of a guy shooting cast 310gr bullets out of his. Very quiet and a heck of a twist with the 1:3 twist. They actually tested a 1:1 twist it stabilized but you needed a solid projectile. The 1:3 you can use cast/powder coated and jacketed no problem 637F9D6A-19A7-4323-8B1C-131EA37ED631.jpeg

If you don’t know it’s an ar-10 platform
That’s why I said it won’t fit an AR15. If it’s in fact a .338Fed killer, cool, but doubt it will sell well based on that. I can see the draw of hunting with one suppressed, but it’s overkill for deer & hogs (IMO & based on availability & cost of .300BLK platforms & ammo) & for anything larger, more dangerous, or further away, I’ll use something else.

Now if it’s just for the neato/different factor, this 6.8SPC, .41 Mag, .41 Special & .357 Maximum weirdo is totally on board 😆

Keep us posted & let us know how it does.

That’s pretty much what I got it for is a hey it’s different. Got the 308,30/30 hunting rifles. Plus I load for the 338 so already buying pills for that.

Was designed originally for suppressed/subsonic like the 300 whisper/blackout. They have supersonic rounds as well, just like 300 does. I’d guess that for supersonic, there are better rounds, depending on what you are trying to do. Gorilla Ammo is the only ammo supplier right now…edit @falconew set me straight below. Faxon is making barrels for both AR and Rem700 platforms.

I might shoot an AR 8.6 on Friday…

They are making ammo as well. Hornady,Lee makes die’s for them now. I have Lee dies in the 8.6. There is even a company that makes a trimmer for the Dillon rt1500.

A .338 caliber bullet at 300 grains produces about 725 pounds or so of energy at 1050 FPS. I'm not sure about 400 yards, but at closer ranges it might be an option. If the subsonic bullets expand better than the 300bo subsonic hollow points, it would be a bonus.

I'm curious about hunting prowess vs a sub sonic 44 300gr load. I'm planning to purchase a suppressor for my 44mag carbine and load some 300gr at sub speeds. Seems that would be as effective and possibly quieter with no clanking bcg.

you're not going to have the same BC of bullet. sleek in the air vs brute force.

Took my son and his friend to the range for my son‘s 17th bday. They had a teacher workday at school so he was off and it worked out great with the perfect weather! Put 10 rounds of 8.6 through today for function test and sound…worked fine and very quiet! 288 gr subsonic Gorilla load using a Griffin Bushwhacker 46 can on an Aero upper/lower with Faxon barrel.

You planning on reloading for them as well?

What barrel length are you using ?

Possibly in the future, though my reloading has all but stopped the last few years due to the component issues.

Got 16 inch because that’s what Faxon had in stock by the time I ordered. I got the Gorilla subs loaded for the 16 inch as well.

Really waiting to see how the round performs and plays out. Worst case, I’m out a barrel and can switch the gun over to 308 in the future.

I got my jig in the mail the other day to start cutting down some 6.5 brass. Then also got my adjustable gas block in as well so probably tomorrow put the ar together and go from there.

Probably order a box to see how they go. Unfortunately my suppressor is still in jail.

Also shot 5 rapid fire out of the 10 or 12 and the gun ran fine. The Pmag fed them with no issues. Still need more testing and I have to mount an optic as well 😆
That’s good to know. Now I need to order me some ammo tomorrow.

Save me your brass. Lol.

I made my son, his friends and my father in law hand pick that brass and put it back into the box! 🤨 Made sure it didn’t go in the 5 gallon brass bucket with the other “commoners”! 🤣

Oh I definitely would be doing that as well myself.

Been looking at it for a long time. He started working the project about 2 years or more back.
I plan to build one, 16". If I don't like it just sell the barrel off or add it to the collection.

I mean a PSA upper/lower combo with a faxon barrel would be the cheapest route. But need to know if subs are going to be hearing safe. Also, need a suppressor for it, which i am leaning towards the Dead Air Primal.
I got the omega-36 sitting in jail right now. That’s what I did. Build up and ar from parts and just switching out the barrel on a complete upper.

They say it’s pretty quiet compared to the sub 300 bo

I’ve got some setups that are quieter, but not many. It was pleasantly surprised!

Seems like a somewhat marginal gain over 300, no? I shoot the 247 grain NOE at the same speeds, and it should have a similar or superior sectional density.

That said my best results with the 300 are more with 230gr bullets but even so, that seems like a lot of extra cost and weight of a larger gun for a relatively trifling difference.

15.7mils from a 50yard 0

let's see, 600m to yards is roughly 650. So at 650 yards, 1 mil is 21.6", so 15.7 mills is... 0.04 furlongs. ok 28 feet. I think I would just prefer to wear ear pro and not have to gauge a shot like that on a live critter.
