I am looking for a 9mm bullet mold. I plan to powder coat instead of lube. I was thinking I start with 124 gr rn profile. I cant find anything in stock except lube groove or tumble lube style molds. Anyone here powder coat tl style bullets with good success? I am finding the Lee molds in stock and really didnt want to spend over $100 for a mold for my first one. Opinions or experiences please.

I've been using the Lee 90457 mold for a few years now without any problems. Powder coating with Eastwood powders. Some colors seem to work better than others. I'm happy with the results as the bullets seem to go where I point the gun and I've been on the podium a few times using my cast and powder coated bullets. There's a guy on Ebay has this mold in stock for $70 and free shipping. Sorry but to illiterate to post link.20211229_091243.jpgFeel free to PM me with any questions.

I didn't have a good experience with that Lee mold. The nose profile doesn't seem to have much taper and a couple of my barrels seem to have a tight or short throat which caused problems. Perhaps trying different seating depths would have helped but I have not had these issues with projectiles cast from my 125 Ballisticast or 147 Lyman molds.

When it comes to coating I don't think you need to worry about a groove-less design. I've coated all kinds of cast pistol bullets with lube grooves and they shoot just fine.
YMMV

Lube grooves and TL microgrooves don't matter a bit for coating. I use a TL in 45.

NOE and Arsenal are a big step up from Lee. Bullets drop round and the diameter specified from every cavity in every mold. And the blocks mass maintains heat better.

Lee is ok I use a few, but they're not precise and you are the QC department.

Look around here

He's got some great molds, get the brass ones and all the pins if you can
bought a many from group buys on another site.

This nose profile will not allow these bullets to work in some 9mm guns. The bullets will jam in the chamber. I have found that 9mm bullets have to immediately taper from the brass case to the point of the bullet. The 9mm is a funky chambering that requires bullets to fit in an internally tapered case. I know this because I have the same mold and my Walther will not even feed these, but my other bullets work just fine.

I initially had the same problem with bullets feeding in my CZ 75. They fed fine in other pistols but not the CZ. I found that if the bullets were seated a bit deeper they would feed fine. My loads are pretty lite , usually around 3.5 grs. Bullseye so not too worried about pressure. There are probably better molds but this one seems to work for me.

Seating the bullets deeper will cause the angled taper of the bullet to be closer to the end of the brass but you are flirting with the taper going into the case and causing a funky crimp. The internally tapered case goes back to the early design of the 9mm by the Germans. I was told that they had problems feeding 9mm ammo into the Luger, so they tapered the end of the cases to allow easier feeding. That made sense to me. So, it seems that 9mm pistols with short chambers (like my Walther) will cause the jamming of bullets that work perfectly fine in other 9mm guns. Reloading is a fun pastime, and you can work up ammo that will work very well with any gun that you might have.

MP Molds.
Pricey but worth it!
Yep....but like you said worth it, works of art made from solid brass, have several
retired the original H&G 68 for MiHec clone with the "pins" His "Penta Pins make
some huge craters (hollow point) like the original "flying ashtray" Speer 200gr. JHP
waiting for long time running "group buys" to close. Hope they
all don't close at one time... but his molds are great, drop great bullets.
