9mm WASR10, the newest PCC

Interested in your hands-on review after you get some rounds through the thing. FYI, if it's still rocking the factory furniture, that wood stock will probably break on the way to your match - yes I am being facetious, but it is absolute rubbish.

If it were my gun I'd replace the furniture with some quality surplus laminate, or an M4-style adapter with adjustable stock and M-LOK handguards.

Picked up the rifle just before noon........

Quick cursory in the box review:
- Fit and finish are excellent
- action is tight, even for an AK.
- wood to steel fit is generally good
- trigger is all AK, single hook style
- magazine adapter is a marvel, but the release is on the weak side, forward. It's positive for both capture of a newly inserted magazine, and release of an empty. The entire assembly is readily removable with a medium sized flat head screw driver.
- furniture is a dense blonde wood, it probably isn't, but it could pass a maple. Pistol grip is the usual small Carney sized hand grip found on nearly every AK I've ever owned.
- sights are standard AK as well. Only difference is the rear sight is graduated from 100-400 yards/meters.

Pictures to follow.....

I noticed a few things upon a more detailed look at the rifle and it's parts.
I field stripped it, and made a few observations.
The bolt carrier/bolt is multiple parts, but as with the Colt SMG, the bolt carrier is the bolt with the breach face milled into it, as opposed to the usual rotating bolt. Where the gas piston usually is, is a stud that I guess just keeps the carrier aligned by using the gas tube.
The bolt handle is a whole separate part that's pinned to the bolt assembly, and it's very secure, no wobble at all.
There's a buffer in rear of the receiver that has to be removed before the bolt assembly can be removed .
The receiver cover is also different from your standard AK part, as is the trunion at the front of the receiver.
Once I get back to the house I'll take some pictures.

Profile as compared to my Arsenal

Notice the differences in the top covers. On the WASR the the breach face is dead even with the forward edge of the ejection port.
The barrel is advertised as 17.5 inches long

Parts for the personalization of this lady have started arriving.
Today the VLTOR M4 stock adapter and stock arrived. The blank off plate that closes up the rear of the receiver required some attention to seat, but it's in and very solid. The VLTOR stock wound up being a NO-GO, it was hideously tight, so I swapped it for a B5 SOPMOD off of Saint, and problem solved.....
Tomorrow the Magpul pistol grip is supposed to be here.
Then Monday and Tuesday are supposed to be parts days as well.
I'll post a picture or two tomorrow of the new stock set-up.
It's coming along nicely as of tonight....

The Midwest Industries MLOK lower handguard arrived yesterday, I've about got it fitted to the receiver front.
I have to say that MI makes a nice piece, this is my second go at one of their handguards.
Odd thing about it though, at the tip of the fore end there's a set screw. Only other time I've seen this is on a SAGE EBR chassis for the M14.
I figure another hour, maybe two of file work, it'll be fitted and range ready.
The Khyber Customs cheese grater upper handguard came Monday and looks great installed.
This things gonna be a hoot once it's all ready to go.

All of my MI Galil ACE handguards have set screws as well. Agreed - they are great items.

Not a single 9mm Glock in the collection (YET!!). But damned if this AK won't be well fed until then....

And an interesting note on the ETS magazines, the bolt won't ride over the follower on them when they're empty.
Bolt hits them so hard it nearly strips the follower from in between the feed lips.

On the off chance there wouldn't be any problems with fitment, I ordered a Krebs Custom enhanced AK safety.
It arrived this afternoon and I switched them out to see if they were one for one, or less.
Well, it was less......
So the OEM safety is back and reinstalled. Krebs sells a rivet on trigger finger extension I might try out, as well as giving the bolt hold open notch a try by hand.

I usually use high temp/ high pressure moly-graphite grease as my go to lubricant, but with this rifle I decided to give an STP product a try.

It's kinda stringy when you get a glop of it on your fingers to slather it on.
So we shall see how it holds up to a PCC.
