I've always found it interesting to visit old cemeteries and look over all the old headstones. Sometimes there's some interesting history and genealogy.
Competitive rifle shooters know about the ranges at Camp Butner, NC and I've shot there for years. Each time I drive to/from, I've passed by a small cemetery near the Holt reservoir on old highway 75, but never stopped. This weekend, after shooting a NRA highpower warmup match, I finally decided to stop & take a look.

It turns out that's a very old family plot for the Waller, Tilley and Tippett families with graves dating back to the mid-1800's hidden in the trees. The most recent family gravemarker that I could find dated to 1938. There were a bunch of unknown markers too, with many headstones worn down to the point where they looked like field stones. But someone had gone in an added some small cross markers to show where the graves were. There's a lot of history in that small plot. I know the Waller family name is still around as they have a strawberry farm in Durham.

Most of the legible headstones were quite unique showing off personalized messages & genealogy. Very interesting to see.
