After cleaning acorns and leaves off of the top of our heat pump yesterday, I'd like to put up a lean-to to keep the acorns off. How much space do I need above the heat pump?
Ideally, I'd like to have the house side of the lean-to close to the current roof edge height...

If so, it will need to be high enough that the hot air in the summer does not get pulled back down into the
Condenser fins.

See if the manufacturer specifies a minimum unobstructed clearance above the unit. This Trane manual says 5 feet.
