Throwing together a 20” 5.56 with traditional D-ring and front plate, and did not want to drill holes in the barrel for the A2 pins. So, tried a YouTube mod.

Drilled and tapped through the bayonet lug and sling area. Welded up the old pin holes, hot blued, all done. As soon as I fire it to confirm gas hole lines up, I’ll dimple the barrel for the set screws.

That's cool.

You going to stake them?

I hate taper pins. I have been known to do roll pins in replacement of the taper pins

Very interesting, I'm of the opposite mindset and have actually shaved down the sight tower and bayonet lug before to make for a low profile gas block. The durability of a double pinned gas block is 👌.

Let us know how it works!

There are two divots for the set screws to rest in. I did that after confirming the gas was flowing.

Worked great. I wanted the A2 look so I did not grind, but I like your approach for when I do want a lo-pro.
