*** We ran the class yesterday, 3/21, there are some after action reports further down thread***

If I ran a 2/3-Gun Mini Clinic in Old Fort, NC would you more likely to attend a Friday evening or Sunday afternoon?

The goal is to give exposure to the structure and etiquette of a match. After attending, a new shooter will have the confidence and core skill set to attend a formal match.

No, I don’t have specific dates just yet. But soon.

I have a preference for something that allows me to drive home with the sun up. We're getting to the point in the year when the sun light lasts well into the evening, but I'd have to have 3 hours to get home post wrap up. I'm a definite maybe for either day though, so don't plan around me.

Sunday! Sunday! Sunday! (Use "upcoming Tractor Pull and Monster Truck Rally" voice when reading)

I am oldish and do physical work by day; Friday evening is not generally an energetic time for me.

EDIT: But if Friday works out being the day, I'm still in.

Question on equipment other than guns and ammo.
Would someone need mag pouches, rifle and or pistol? I'm guessing I will need several mags to run a 1911 in 45 ACP.
I still have my gun cart from SASS, I'm guessing it would be useful. Or are guns just stored in racks.
Water of course. Assuming rest rooms are available for us old farts with bad prostates.
Can you provide address for VOD Tactical, I'd like to look them up on Google earth. No address that I could find on their web site.

For the “mini camp” you’d be fine with a couple magazine on a belt. 2 rifle mags would be fine.

for a match, a cart would be useful. For the mini camp I don’t think it would be necessary.

Keep in mind the mini camp is not a “match”, so adapting to the available equipment is fine. We aren’t shooting for scores.

there’s a port-a-John on site.

I’ll post details when I have a firm date on the calendar.

IOW, I have no idea of round count or stages yet! =)

I'd like a Sunday afternoon, provided I have the time to get away

Camp scheduled

Is this going to be a monthly thing? I had things come up right after this was announced, otherwise I wouldn't have missed it.

I was going to recommend to @Tim that, if there were enough interest, this could totally be an annual thing. Maybe biannual.

If there is enough interest, I'd be more than happy to do it again. It was a terrific group and I think we all learned a lot from each other!

I had a blast "teaching" this class yesterday! We had some eager folks!

We spent time on the 'structure' and etiquette of a match. Walked through a simple stage to introduce range commands, how to approach a stage, how to abandon guns safely, etc. GREAT questions were asked! Total class time was about 4.5 hours

We then shot the 'simple' stage with everyone walking through it being coached along the way. Everyone was safe and had opportunity to get a feel for how match is run.

We then moved over to a "real" stage, one that I would have been happy to shoot during an official match. With the exception of my shotgun getting broken, all went smoothly. We had a couple opportunities to correct safety mistakes in a controlled environment.

All in all, I think the class went very well. I learned a bunch about what to change up for v2 as well.

I encourage all who attended (13?) to send me critiques! Or, post up here about your experience.

Thanks,

Tim

Oh, yeah.... @VOD Tactical was an excellent host, as usual!

If anyone took pictures, I'd love to see them!
