Accident at South Carolina Range

That sucks. Feel so sorry for the family and friends. I also feel for whomever was responsible for the round.

Makes me wonder exactly how it got there.

So I'm hearing foreign object in the eye and a bullet lodged in the brain. One sounds much worse than the other. Do we have two different stories, bad reporting, or did the bullet go through her eye?

How horrible for this family. Prayers for God's peace and comfort for them. I'm sure the folks at the range are pretty shaken up as well. So sad.

I have a feeling they thought it was a fragment at the scene and once they got her imaged they realized it was a whole (or mostly whole) bullet.

It sounds like it was a riccochet that lost most of it's energy but not enough. My purely wild ass guess is that had it hit her in the head it might have knocked her out, possibly cracked her skull or even lodged in the skull without penetrating. It was just pure bad luck that it hit her in the eye. Nothing hard there to stop it and it had enough energy to travel far enough to lodge in her brain.

Their is a large piece of copper jacket stuck in the front of my shooting bench behind the house. It is left there as a reminder.

Very tragic. Life is so fragile it seems.

I hope somebody publishes an objective report of the accident that might help us learn how to avoid similar accidents in the future. My bet is that this was a freak accident.

I'm betting on gross negligence

"Never point a gun at anything you don't want to destroy" Her directly and many others indirectly.... Sad, so young and pretty with the world at her feet going forward..
