Aero vs PSA? Want to get/build a 308 AR and is the few extra dollars worth it or not?

or buy what’s on sale and be happy…..

If building on stripped lower I would say go aero
I was gonna start a new thread but realized this basically covered what I had to say, in that today I built my first lower on an aero m4e1 and love how convenient it is in regards to the bolt catch being screwed in, and also the option to screw in the rear detent. I've typically used psa lowers in the past, but after this build I probably won't go back. And also the built in trigger guard which is also nice. I've lost count to how many lowers I have either built myself or helped new people starting out. But I am sold on aero lowers going forward. Less than an hour to assemble the lower, slap on the upper and test fire 3 rounds. This particular upper came as a kit from PSA with a vortex strike eagle. I've decided to not mount the optic and let the end user decide if they want me to do it, or if they wanna take it somewhere to get it mounted and bore sighted

My vote is for the Aero. Like @Get Off My Lawn said, check their website constantly and get on their email list to let you know when the item you want is back in stock. They come up for sale quite often.

I have several PSA & Aero uppers & lowers and I am of the opinion that the Gen 2 Aero lowers are definitely worth the extra money over PSA, and I’m a big PSA fanboy, but I got a blem Gen2 upper & Lower for $114 when I built my Grendel and I honestly do not believe you will find a better or feature packed receiver anywhere close to the same price as the Aero stuff, feature wise my Gen 2 stuff is every bit as nice as my Mega Arms Billet set (they are now Zev I believe), but you can’t compare the fit & finish because the Mega Arms (Zev) costs two or three times what the Aero stuff does, hell my wife saw immediately took possession of the billet rifle because it’s so nice, so yeah I won’t be buying anymore of those lmao.

Bookmark Aeros blem page and check it frequently, you can score some very, very nice items from there on the cheap.

Yeah, I'm all for supporting PSA and I do now. My reasoning can be found in a few threads here and there. But Aero is gtg and I would pick them for stripped parts without hesitation.

Years ago I bought a complete PSA 308 carbine and its been problematic. I still say its the chamber. Its too tight. Going from a carbine butt stock and buffer system to a rifle length butt stock and buffer system helped a lot but not completely. PSA has been through a couple gens on their 308 since then and is supposed to be G2G now. I have no first hand experience on the newer Gens.

I have the PSA Gen 3 ar10 chambered in 308. I bought it complete and it's great. No function issues and it shoots about 3/4 moa or a little better. I wouldn't hesitate to buy PSA. I have no experience with Aero precision.

Let me toss a different thought your way.. have you considered the Ruger SFAR as an option, since you are targeting 308?? Complete and ready to go in 16” or 20”. In my experience and from others I know that have one, it is accurate and much much lighter than most other AR10 builds (2lbs-3lbs).

As for the original question….. Both PSA and AERO are g2g and would make great builds. So go with the one you like the looks / feel / price of.

I found this helpful info about .308 Winchester caliber AR-10 style rifles. If using a carbine length butt stock (collapsible), a typical buffer combination is a special ".308 spring" and a shorter (2.5") and heavier (4oz) buffer.

I would have said Aero, easily. Hopefully you're still happy with the PSA.

I've now built 3 308 ARs, all on Aero parts. The only difference between them is the barrel and one has a Rise Armament BCG. The Aero BCGs are better IMO.

I came here to ask the same question so instead of starting another thread, I'll tag in here. My question is more specific to the standard ARs (not AR10) and complete parts (uppers and lowers) rather than stripped receivers.

I am looking to put together a 300blk pistol that will be SBRed. An upper and lower from PSA is around $650. An upper and lower from Aero is closer to $800. Is it worth the difference?

How about customer service? I've heard good and bad about both companies.

Personally it's worth the cost difference to me.

I would say at least get the lower from aero

I've seen a lot of people suggest the opposite...that a PSA lower with an Aero upper is preferred. I took it to suggest that the lower is simpler and less likely to cause functionality issues than the upper and that PSA's lowers are very comparable to Aero's. 🤷‍♂️

I've never had any issues from PSA regardless. I just like the aero lower features better, built in trigger guard, threaded holes for the rear detent spring and threaded bolt catch. And I think aeros magwells have more of a flare. More specifically the m4e1 model

Aero is just an easy go to. You know it will be good. I personally watch and wait for sales, and their blem stuff isn't what I'd call blem at all. I sat and waited to build a new gen2 M5e upper and saved a solid 200 bucks. If you're not in a hurry, you'll do well.

As far as customer service, I only have one experience with Aero. They mis-shipped an order of mine. They overnighted me the corrected parts and sent me a whole box of swag gear as an apology. That was nice! Never bought anything from PSA that required me use their customer service.

And funny enough, just got the email, up to 15% off complete lowers at Aero. They still do better sales sometimes, but that's not bad either.

If you have time and like to watch YouTube videos, T-Rex arms did a really interesting video on the aero precision 308

I would love to build a 308 one day, but it will be many years before I can financially get there cause I’m so invested in 556 stuff.

Another one i personally shop deals for is Ballistic Advantage, who makes all Aero barrels and they get their lowers from Aero. I’ve gotten many good deals from them, but their shipping seems higher at times for smaller stuff but they are working on reducing it when I complained to their customer service.

I would recommend an Aero M4E1 receiver set and a Ballistic Advantage Hanson barrel.

Agree..

Have 2 rigs built as described and couldn't be happier.
I have a lower that I may use. In that case, I would likely prefer to buy a complete upper. I know that BA makes barrels for Aero but does Aero offer complete uppers with the BA Hanson barrel? Their website is unclear.
