While dialling in my Aimpoint on my SAR1 on Sunday I noticed the gas tube leaked just enough filthy gas to coat the lens with a nice grey shroud after a half dozen rounds or so. I've got a CompM2 on a MWI dedicated 30mm ring handguard mount which is tank solid, but apparently placed to take advantage of my little leak.

My current setup

I'm considering ways to protect the optics from the gas ejected, but am considering spending the money for the RS Regulate second gen side mount, since it would get my optics off the hot gas tube area and away from any leaks and would also bring the Aimpoint closer to my eye giving me a clearer field of view through the "larger" aperture with the optic closer to my eye. The new gen are a lot slimmer, lighter and more practical by the looks of it. Downside is, the base and ring are tipping the scales just over $200.

So, anyone using these or the other options in the series?

Basically this is the setup I'm thinking about (pic from firearmsblog). Mines a fixed stock so no worries about blocking the folding hinge.

I know this is a late reply and that you have probably already decided, but I have the rs regulate mount for an MRO. Very good mount and I have never had any issues with mine. This is the only AK mount I have ever used though so I can’t give you a comparison versus other mounts.
