Alcohol detection systems installed in all new cars in US....maybe

So instead of drinking then driving, we will have drinking while driving or just leaving the car running while at the bar, or they'll just figure out how to bypass it

I used to know a guy who had one of those blow meters who was ALL THE TIME begging others to blow in it so he could drive. It was comical

Government overreach, absolutely. Can I say I’m 100% opposed, that’s tough… too many fatalities, as often as not it’s the innocents on the road. Some corollaries with firearms for sure though. The electric vehicles with blow n go’s are gonna be a tough sale for a lot of folks.

You know they are working on speed controls. The plan is have some thing like wifi telling your vehicle the max speed of the road, and not letting you exceed it. Also is the more accurate the GPS and constant updated maps with max speed for roads.

Once again, Antje proposal that treats all people as criminals.
There is no technology that can isolate only the drivers blood alcohol continuously. Everyone in gov't knows this. They don't care.
Note the added speed limiter too.
Gov't hates a few people.

Just actually deal with the drunks that drive impaired and they won’t need one of those contraptions. It’ll end up just driving the cost of the car up another 10 grand. Cars are too expensive already.

They will mandate DUI DWI convicts wear a blood sensor like those who are diabetic.

Its good except for the part that No One ! Should have that much control of anyone's life 😕. Whats the next thing, detecting when you have your legally owned firearm on you when you get in your car?

The gov is giving me more reasons every few weeks to only want to buy older (~10-20yo) vehicles.

All of this makes driving older cars much more attractive than it already was.

Doesn’t sound like the technology exists yet:
The NTSB wants the Alliance for Automotive Innovation, an industry group representing manufacturers of nearly 98 percent of new cars and light trucks sold in the US, to inform its members about the January 2021 crash in California and "encourage them to accelerate development and prioritize deployment of advanced impaired driving prevention technology and to seek innovative ways to adapt existing technologies, such as driver monitoring systems, to combat alcohol-impaired driving."
After I bought it, I took my wife’s Mazda to work for a few months. It would frequently pop up a “distracted driver” warning, especially on curvy country roads. Not sure exactly what it was looking for, but it was annoying. Guess it didn’t like going around curves at other than grandma speeds. It has that lane departure detection, which wasn’t being triggered, so who knows. It also has cameras that detect speed limit and stop signs and adjusts the HUD on the windshield dynamically. How far off from “forcing” you to obey speed limits is that? When are cars going to start saying, “I don’t like how your driving“ and shut down, erroneously?

My WRX on the other hand, cost as much as the Mazda, but has none of those features, bells, and whistles. The difference in driving it vs. the Mazda is similar to that of the Mazda and my 14 year old Scion that had 340,000 miles.

needing extra chips in a time of chip shortage? sounds like a great plan.

I do not think this will happen. To much cost and no one would buy a new car with it in the US or another country.

Pipe dream.
