Not sure if that is the correct name. Looking for the automatic headlamp sensor part number for a 2000 Chevy Venture. I have googled like crazy and not having any luck.

Most likely a was dealer only part, Best bet now would be to scrounge one from a salvage yard.

@Mike Overlay thank you very mucg
My god man, do I have to do everything……

Gm part # 12450120

😎
Thank you. That is the one I found on Amazon. But could not confirm it fit the Venture. Thanks again.

Did not want to have to take apart the dash twice.

@Mike Overlay Well I put the new sensor in and the headlights still will not go off in the day light. Any ideas?

Edit: I am looking to see if there is a Day Time Running Light fuse now. Just because I am out of ideas.

Are you sure the new sensor works?

Open or closed circuit when in “daylight” vs dark

Ok. I covered the sensor and did a continuity test and nothing. I believe I have it correct that circuit is closed when it is dark correct? I just have a hard time with the new one being bad also. I know it happens, just frustrating.

I will look at the wiring diagram at work tomorrow and get back to this thread

Could be a Body Control Module issue. GM’s plagued with those. We’re you able to find an oem sensor or aftermarket? I suggested salvage yard before only because manufactures are only required to supply parts for 10 years after a model’s built by law, and often times obscure parts like that are the first to disappear.

oem

Well that takes the hit/miss of aftermarket electronics out of the equation. You need someone with a scanner to see what the BCM is seeing/doing.

Yea my OBD2 scanner is not going to do it. I will see what Mike can tell me tomorrow.

As per the wiring diagram, not putting hand on to verify, you either have a

Bad light sensor (dont matter that its “oem” new..but suspect a bootleg part..Amazon is notorious for this)

A broken wire between the sensor and the day time running lamps module (right side of steering column)

Or a bad daytime lamps module.

Thank you for checking this out. I will check the wiring down to the module. I know right where the module is at so that works. Just not sure I want to spend that kind of money for a new module if that is it. Rock Auto is out of stock and Auto Zone was around a hundred.

Thank you again for taking the time to check this for me

When it comes to this sort of stuff, avoid rock auto and auto zone or the likes. Call the dealer and get prices. It may very well be cheaper and the manufactures spec’d correct parts. Or..

At the module, termina H..lt/grn and blk wire is terminal A at the sensor
Terminal G..yel/blk wire is terminal B at the sensor

Terminal C is power in from the DRL fuse at the underhood fuse block

Terminal A..blk wire is the module ground

Well it is the module. Put everything back together. I will check with the dealer and see what the price is and then decide whether or not to replace it. Had the vehicle for 20 years now so I can not complain.

Thank you very much for your help.

Without your vin#, I think the part number is 10407669. Plug that into gmpartsdirect.com and see. That place is a chevy dealer in Winston Salem.!

I just checked that is the correct number. The gm sight said discontinued but I will call the dealer in the morning and see what they say. Having to deal with wife's computer problems this afternoon.

If all else fails I will go to the junk yard. Have not had much luck there lately though.

Oh and to add to the problems with the van. When I was putting everything back together earlier I decided to wipe the dash off. It had a small crack in it to begin with now it has a lot of cracks. Sitting in the sun for the past 21 + years will do it I guess. One thing though the sensor is easy to get to now. 😁 This vehicle is my range vehicle so it is what it is these days.
