I picked up a up another CZ over a month ago and finally got out to shoot it today. It is my 5th CZ 45x model I think.
This time I ended with my first 457 with a Shilen barrel, KRG Bravo Chassis, and Timney trigger.
I’m digging the 457. The bolt throw is really nice and super smooth. Not a huge fan of the Bravo, but it is ok. Nothing wrong with it, but just not my fav. The Timney is ok, but not sure it is worth the price. I need some more time with it. I am used to a 3-4oz trigger, so it is a bit heavy. I thought the guy told me he had it down to 10oz, but if feels heavier. I’ll check it, but it might just be due to what I have been shooting. I have also fallen in love with 2 stage triggers too.
The Shilen barrel may be more forgiving of different ammos than the factory barrels I have owned and I would say more than the 3 Liljas, but hard to say with only 120 rounds down it. Luckily, there are no issues closing the bolt on either SK, Lapua, RWS, or Eley. CCI was the only one. I didn’t do any real testing today, as I just took about 6 different males and 1 lot of each back to back with no cleaning to check out functions and a little to see what it generally likes.
CCI was CCI. Shoots ok sometimes, but too sporadic for more than plinking.
RWS Rifle Match did surprisingly well. I wasn’t sure what to think of it. I knew I should have bought more when they closed it out for like $5 a few years ago. It has some potential. I’m curious to see how it does when not right after the CCI. The lube is similar to SK. I can get by with this as inexpensive ammo till it’s gone.
SK RM did what RM usually does. It has been a very good non-CX option for me over the years until this lot. I have most a whole box because my last 3 didn’t like this lot. This rifle likes it, so I’m happy about that.
Center X does what it always does. I only shot 10 rounds and it had the smallest 5 shot group of all. I did shoot it after the SK, so the lubes weren’t much different.
I also tried a little Eley Team and and Black. Neither were great today, but they have potential. I have a few lots of each I can try. And I’ll try them with a clean barrel instead of right after CX and SK.
