HIGH POINT, NC – On December 6, 2019, High Point Police officers were dispatched to 620 North Main St (BB&T) in reference to an armed robbery. The suspect, who was described as a black male wearing a gray jacket walked in the bank with what appeared to be a gun in his hand and told the teller to give him all the money. The teller began giving him $1’s and $5’s but the suspect stated to give him more and the teller gave him some $20’s. The suspect was given an undisclosed amount of money then fled on foot out of the bank.
Prior to the call being dispatched, an officer was already in the area on routine patrol and observed a subject running from the area of the bank. The officer stopped and detained the subject and then the bank robbery call was dispatched and a description of the subject was given. A show-up was completed and the subject was positively identified and placed under arrest for armed robbery. The money that was stolen from the bank was in the suspect’s possession.
After making the arrest, High Point Police was able to determine that Johnson has been convicted of five robberies dating back to 1991. Including Johnson committed a robbery at the same location on March 23, 2016 (case report 2016-11062). Johnson served 489 days for this conviction.
As a result of the investigation, Jimmy Lee Johnson B/M 52 of High Point was arrested and will be charged with armed robbery related to this incident.
