Looking for a DD MK18 Upper. I've seen deals in the $900s pop up on r/Gun deals but they're OOS now. I put in a bid on GB for a used one for $900 but it didn't meet reserve.

mixed reviews. sounds like some of them show up with some abnormal handling marks. brownells has a good return policy though.

even going the stripped route you'd come out on top adding in better bcg/ch/fh. the dd handles arent anything special and there is nothing that a $60 DD A2 will do that $9 wilson A2 won't. DD carriers are nice but not 2x toolcraft nice, right?

looks like they're OOS now. did you get one?

But if you change it too much, it's not a Mk18, right?

No doubt. It's definitely a continuum between as-close-as-you-can-get clone to to Mk18-in-name-only. I agree with about the A2 and BCG. The DD rail is way over-priced, they always have been, but part of what makes it, 'it.'
 
How "used" are you looking to go?
These guys frequently get in legit mil-surplus MK18 uppers that are well loved, but they go for like $700-800 I believe. https://shieldspeararms.com/

I stumbled into a deal several years ago where a guy on M4Carbine had a new, complete DD MK18 upper group listed for $900. I, being who I am, lowballed him at $800 shipped and he accepted.

I will concur with everyone else though, I'd buy the stripped one and just add a Radian or other ambi CH, your preferred muzzle device, and an $80 Toolcraft BCG.

It's a cool upper, but honestly, there's not a lot special about it.

I think that it was contracted to DD and have been on and off unobtanium give them the aura of being 'special.'

To me it's a reminiscence factor. But honestly I'd rather have the SAM-R than the Mk12 for even that.

I did not, looking for a complete. I've seen enough of them go in the $9s to wait. Something will come up eventually.

IDK why everyone says they have to be a specific configuration necessarily; I have two of them with me at work every day and they're even setup differently.

This is a fair point. My Mk18 was a DD-built SBR; at the time it was the only contract we had. But like the Mk12 and the recce, over time it became a mishmash of parts and accessories as it became built in-house. So to that point, then no. Potato PUH-tato.

I'm winning the auction right now, but it's right on the line. I'll prob be outbid.

I could wait for a deal, get a BCM 11.5", SOLGW 13.7" P/W, or two Aero uppers lol. Always something to think about.

As enticing as Aero's prices are, I think I'll probably just wait. I don't have any high end uppers so it's probably time.

Ya I just checked and I got outbid by $5. It's at $906 now. Good price up to $1k shipped IMO, but I've seen better deals on the used market. I don't mind $900 OTD for a DD MK18 Upper that's seen around 1k rounds. It's just a matter of how long I want to wait and how much time I want to spend looking for a deal.

I would post a want to buy ad on ar15.com and see what pops up. I've had pretty good luck on there. The forum is so dang YUGE.
