My wife bought some corbels for the fireplace mantle that she’s trying to design. She bought some that said, rubber wood” but turns out their styrofoam, which we don’t think will work for the fireplace. Finding ones that she likes in the right size has been difficult. I wanted to see if anyone, preferably triad / triangle area, does wood work and could make a couple of custom ones for her out of real wood?

There are lots of wood ones online, the fancy carved-looking stuff is either termite barf or styrofoam.
Might help to post a pic of what she wants.
There were a couple guys that work at Woodcraft in Raleigh that do custom work, might still be there but it's been a few years, I’ve not used them.

I’ll see if I can get one. She now says she found some made from poplar that she likes. If those work, great, otherwise it’s probably custom.

It’s a challenging space and she’s got a vision of what she wants. It’s the center of the main living area and needs to “pop” but it isn’t terribly large either.

Look on Etsy. Lots of really cool corbels on there.

Claim to be made of wood.

Something like this. Needs to be 7” or less tall and deep but can be 3-4” wide.

Lots of different ways to make those, but someone with a CNC router might be the most efficient.

Although they could be made from solid stock, a glue up from poplar would probably be the best route to go in terms of cost versus stability. The moulding profile around the top and bottom could be attached.

If you could find that profile in something that was being mass produced it would be the least costly option. Making them by hand would take some time.

If she's handy buy her a schroll saw.
