Not sure if this is in right area if not please move to the right place: Thing is I was talking with a guy I know and he'd bought a gun week or so ago like normal all was cool 10 mins he was done and had gun once all paperwork had been done. Well we was talking and he said I was gonna buy a gun here (walmart) and they went to do background check and we've waited over an hour and still hadn't heard back from it and he said he was gonna just have to leave it waiting he guessed as he had to go. Far as I know it never did come back that day. I hadn't talked to him about it since and he hasn't been talking about the new gun so guess it hasn't yet.

It took me 3 hours to buy a shotgun at Academy. It's the last gun I bought there. And that was a couple years ago.

Academy has gone to the 72 hr. waiting period like Gander use to do. Went to buy a Henry 22 last month on a Saturday couldn't pick up until Tuesday. That was in Rockhill, SC !

Wally world probably has only guy that can access the system. And if he is out to lunch, too bad.
Aren't most of them "out to lunch"?

Took me about as long to buy a box of Sudafed there.

My guess'd be the wait is due to a panic-induced volume issue.

It's bad enough when the left starts floating ideas of a ban, but when the Republicans do it, folks get a bit antsy....they have fallen for the lie that Republicans are "ardent defenders of the RTKBA", when in reality, they ain't.

Truth is, they hate the RTKBA just as much as the other wing of the uniparty.

Worked pt at the gun store Friday, no issues as with the online background check system, but volume is up due to tax returns coming in and some panic buying, ar sales were kind of flat, but have picked up slightly over the past week

Nope. No prob whatsoever at my FFL. I buy gun, make lots of payments, show up with my NC CHP and walk out with a gun 5 min later

Me to but most of mine are mail order so it watch the tracking until he receives it run to his shop pay may transfer fee show my CHP pet the dog and run home to clean and play

Yep. I like my infringement up front, not strung out $5 at a time plus wasted time.

Pretty sure I wouldn't use a WalMart experience to indicate any kind of overall issue.
wasn't this store isn't your normal walmart I know manager and this lady runs her store like sam used to do them and all of her employees actually like working there and are helpful. It's odd as hell if you ever go there its like its somewhere not in walmart.

Concealed Carry Permit...... take it home at time of purchase.

Before I had CCP, either I got the approval within a few minutes or it took 3 days.

NICS check is discretionary if you have a CHP in NC. Does WalMart do them anyway?

I've never had anyone be discretionary about it....... no matter where the firearm was purchased. I've only bought 1 firearm at Walmart and I walked out with it right after purchase....actually the manager walked out with it and then gave it to me once we were outside the building if I recall correctly.

This is how WM does it.
I can only recall 2 long gun buys at WM. A Savage model 64 22lr, and a cheap SAS 20ga semi-auto for the ladies and kids to use on shotgun days.
Showed em the CHP and no calls were made, but you still have to fill out their computerized 4473. (of course)
For ammo buys all they ever ask is my DOB. Don't ask for ID.
Our WM has gotten better in the sporting goods dept. Used to be terrible but the crabby old woman who was in charge retired. She was an albatross.

That's been my experience since I got my CHP. 4473 and out. I was delayed once prior to my CHP. I waited about 20 minutes at the counter and told the guy to call. I didn't make it half way home before he was calling. Slow internet that day?

A local FFL is explicit on his website that he does a NICS regardless of CHP. He's a nice guy and all but it just irritates me after getting the CHP colonoscopy background check. No big deal in the end though. If I ever decide to buy one off a website, I'll use him if he's got a relationship with the seller and the range I have a membership at doesn't. IIRC he gives a decent discount on multiple transfers as well, which I do believe require ATF or FBI being notified any way. I'm not 100% on that one.

I've noticed that the local Wally sometimes has a bunch of rifles with hold stickers sometimes, like around Christmas. I've never bought one there but have been tempted a couple of times. The sporting goods guy in Huntersville does a great job. Ammo on display where my old eyes can see what it is, and the rifle carousels generally well stocked.

I bought one the other day, check came back before I could finish checking out all the guns in the small gun shop.

Just had a 5 day delay for a AR lower from the same store that I walked out with a new rifle a week before with no wait.
