Anyone reviewed this vid yet? Interesting DIY body armor.

comments on vid (yeah, I am weird enough to read those!) talked about making the plate tougher in a vacuum seal.
It would definitely help with any weaknesses due to the layer separation issues, as would using epoxy resin in lieu of polyester resin.

Does that 30 bucks include the xxl tyvek suit so i dont get th itchies????

This looks very doable and honestly an easy way fkr anyone to slip a panel in their kids backback for school. Make a cloth cover or heck even paint like a book. Either way. Im going to try it, not sure my food saver is gonn give the vacuum i want for that

I recall seeing a similar video maybe 5yr ago. Many others have done the same using varying methods of forming the plates/panels, laying the weaves in different ways (uniform, alternating, random), using different resins, and of course different thicknesses, but all generally say that this is a viable way to make DIY armor.
In my mind it’s cool to know that you can but I certainly wouldn’t choose to do this.

Anybody have any insight as to how the plate would react to a bullet if the plate was locked down in a vise vs just leaning against something

I believe the NIJ testing has it pressed into a block of clay. That way you can see the damage done to the clay with the plate backing deformation. Definitely need it being held in place against something to simulate it being worn.

Body armor is getting less expensive and it's tested. Why guess?

Reminds me of the parachute analogy...

You may never need one, but when you do, you're going want it to be the best money can buy.

Are cheap parachutes really a good buy?
Is DIY body armor really a good investment? I could see it if nothing else is available and you have to improvise.

ETA - Just saw 3A panels for $89.

What @georgel said... Can't sell armor for a decent price it's so cheap now... Unless we become 3rd world rebels, I'll stick with factory made/tested...

Maybe a way to make cheaper panels for mobile room/vehicle/barricade protection...

For real. Level 4 armor can be had super cheap these days. It only starts going up when it’s made to be lighter. No need for DIY or, heaven forbid, steel armor 😳

But held motionless like in a steel vice would cause more penetration than if worn. Humans are squishy and will move when struck, even over a large surface area. They need to strap it to something soft but heavy. Sorry I'm not available. 🤪
