Saw this while ordering something else at Outdoor Limited:

It looks like their regular 36gr copper JHP rounds, but isn't packaged in the usual Armscor packaging nor does it have their branding on the box.

If it's actually 'high velocity' then it's not like CCI Quiet or some ultra low speed rounds that won't cycle, so... funny bullet shape? Odd rim thickness? Bad crimp?

Obviously I got a box to test; will run it over the chronograph at the next range session and see what it's doing.... and of course I'm going to try to run it through a semi-auto if the velocity is like CCI STD or faster. It can't explode any more than ammo already does... right?

That's a funny shaped bullet for a .22. looks like it relies on just the ridges to engage the barrel. Don't let derek8404 see that profile. He might take a liking to it.

Bolt action only on the right, the regular Armscor 36gr JHP high velocity on the left. They are different, if only slightly.

I bought a box a couple months ago. Never got around to trying it.

Whatever it is, it's not a velocity thing.

Out of a 16" single shot rifle, CCI Standard (which will cycle semi-autos just fine) I was getting 1065 fps average just now in the rain. The Armscor stuff was 1156 fps and I was getting the supersonic crack quite clearly ringing out over the sound of the suppressed shot... so I stopped that before the wife figured out I was shooting in the yard. :)

I'll test more when I'm at the range next time now that I know it's not just slow.

Ah, so it works in a single shot.
Obviously, not bolt action only.
I knew it was BS.

With 22LR being a heeled bullet, it may have something to do with the heel part. I can't really see a difference in the two so I guessing.

It's probably nothing more than a disclaimer meant to let people know that this particular ammunition will not function reliably in semi-autos, fur whatever the reason.
This would be my guess. It probably works just fine in a semi, until it doesnt. But it allows them to claim reliability when "used as directed".

Finally got it to the range and violated the instructions by feeding the remaining 45 rounds through a G44 and my TX22 competition. Had 1 FTF, got it out of the chamber and put it on the top of the mag again with a different part of the rim facing up and it fired on the 2nd pass.

No accuracy test, was just blasting at the plate rack but it didn't seem any different than the armscor 36gr I was testing as well. Tangentally, the TX22 with the dot on it is totally 'easy mode'. I swear I couldn't miss if I tried.

Maybe I got lucky with this small sample, but my conclusion is.... inconclusive.

I'm buying a case of the armscor stuff since it ran through four different 22s today without issue, but will pay the extra for the regular pack stuff and not the bolt action only lot.

I wonder if the hotter velocity (looks like 10% hotter) results in the cartridge case slamming the bolt back harder in a SA?

That's 10% more than CCI standard velocity, so that's not an unreasonable fps for a 'high velocity' loading.
