In 40 years of carrying, not counting for the Army, I’ve taken my gun out of the holster once in self defense, and didn’t have to point it or fire it. I was following a car down Springs Rd in Hickory one evening, minding my business, when they start shooting me the bird for no reason. I was following to close but I backed off some more. They slowed down and continued their act, this time rolling the windows down and sticking their arms out. I passed them when I got to the 4 lane and went on down the road. I got to the stop ligot at Section House Rd and here they come again. This time they stop, get out with sticks. My son who was about 5 at the time was in the truck. I couldn’t go around the car in front of me so I made a show of racking the slide of my 92 Beretta and they had better ideas about leaving. The only time it’s ever left the holster for self defense. I’ve thought hard about it a couple times. We had a couple of thugs come into the hardware store that I was working in at the time, with thoughts of robbing it, but 3 of us being armed changed their minds before they did something stupid. And a guy on a Harley followed me into a Sams Parking lot a couple of years ago cussing me and threatening me with a cut off pool cue. Again, I didn’t get out of the truck but did tell him if I did that I didn’t have a stick, I had a Glock. Again, he drove off flipping me the bird. I still don’t know what his problem was other than he was flying up the access road and my truck was sitting where he wanted to be. I’ve had enough close calls that I don’t leave the house without a gun. I’ve never made any threats to anyone , I’ve never done anything to anyone that would cause due harm, I try to be courteous and help people, but, there are crazy and dangerous people in this world and I’d rather be prepared!
