Need to attach shelving that is 1/2 plywood and 2x4's to wall and ceilings with sheetrock. I assume lag bolts would be best? Any size or other fastener type suggestions?
That wont reach the stud. I like to use 3” deck screwsRegular drywall screw 1 5/8-2” coarse thread
Remove the 2x4s and use these:

Anchored to the wall with deck screw or stronger.
I did this across an entire wall in my garage and was SHOCKED at the load I could put on the system.
With the uprights, the loads on the screws is more "down" than "out", as you'd get with a 2x4 frame under the shelf.
Yes, it adds a not-insignificant cost to the project, but it works great, and you can change height, or add "mid-shelves" for smaller items and bins.
what’s the sheet rock screw to then. Sounds like you may have some horizontal furring attached to the studsThat wont reach the stud. I like to use 3” deck screws
Hes talking about putting 2x4s on top of drywall and attaching them to the studs behind. gonna need more than a sheet rock screw for that.
