Is there a software program that one can purchase or download onto a laptop? Where we shoot we get very poor cell phone reception (no signal!) so trying to use apps or online programs can be sporadic and very frustrating.
I found a few for sale online but they are dated and are based on a catalog of bullets available at that time. What I need is trajectory using weight of bullet, velocity, BC, sight in distance, scope height above bore, elevation, barometric pressure, temp and altitude. I use MILS but most use MOA.
Interesting. I used to write some programs in BASIC myself.
On the software linkGreat source - are there any others that do not require a web connection to operate?
I have Strelok but where we shoot it's sometimes hard to get a good signal. I was shooting yesterday afternoon and I couldn't even get the local weather on my phone. Luckily I had my DOPE book with me and a Kestrel so I was able to get wind, temp, and BP. Checked my DOPE for similar days in the past and it worked...bang...DING! out to 600. But it would be nice to have a program on a tablet or laptop that would work without a signal. One thing I have learned is that with dozens of shooting sessions logged in my little book it has become priceless!! I have collected enough data and notes that in a pinch I don't really need an App except for convenience.
I use strelok on an iPad or phone without internet connection. It pairs nicely - and automatically - with your Kestrel. So the weather/wind data is immediately integrated into the calculations.
No internet required unless you want to download new bullet profiles.
So Strelok will work without a cell phone signal? Yesterday my phone just sat there with the little center ring spinning around in circles? I couldn't get it to do squat.
I believe there is a free strelok version stillDo not want to highjack the thread but for someone that is just playing around with long-range shooting, are some of the apps named in this thread overkill? Right now I have out to a 500-yard range and shooting a 308 and 223. I do not mind spending the $12 or so but want something that is easy to use.
