I'm learning that there's a such thing as a bar hog in wild pig populations.

I have questions...

Are there people castrating wild pigs and letting them back out, or is it more likely these are domestic pigs that have escaped a farm?

I just watched a dude on YouTube shoot a solid black "bar" hog that probably weighs between 300 and 350lbs.

Not only has this pig been denutted (or whatever it is they do to 'em), but the tail has been docked to show that its been fixed.

Help me out here.

I had some friends down in Florida and they would catch them with dogs and castrate them. They would just get bigger and be better eating.

Very true. The issue is the meat will not have a rank nasty taste like killing one you just chased with the dogs all over the place.
By cutting them and release you were doing the next hunter a favor.
Also the hog population in Florida was getting out of hand.
I don't know if it still does but Florida allows night hog hunting with dogs and it was enjoyed by many.

PS for grins.
A barrow (shortened to bar) is a castrated boar. A sow is a female that has reproduced. A gilt is a female that has not reproduced. A shoat (shote) is any young hog that has been weaned.
