Barrel Break-In

Cortina has some great videos about precision reloading, load development, and precision shooting. Seems like a down to earth guy.

I hate that people come in and say"My new gun isn't accurate" then I ask for round count and it's usually 5 or 10 rounds. You have to break barrels in and find the ammo they like.

Don't think so. I think if the gun is within spec. And the ammo is within spec. Why would it not work. A socket cannot fit a nut untill it's broke in ???. If a shell will not work in any gun of the proper caliber something is out of spec. There are a lot of more tools, machines around that are much more complicated than guns that do not need to be "broke in" to do their job. Why does one gun work fine with all and another does not? There must be a reason.

I would say:

Heavy throat erosion happens in the first xxx amount of rounds.

Barrels that have some imperfections may polish out during the first xxx amount of rounds.

Bullet barrel combo is key.

If somebody came in with a new gun and said it wasn't accurate I'd first ask what he/she/it meant by accurate. May be the nut behind the trigger, scope loose, didn't clean the factory crap out of the barrel first, cheap ammo, wrong bullet, and on and on. If a gun is within spec and you're not shooting the proper ammo for the barrel twist you might as well be pissing in the wind.

I love to buy guns from people that say their gun won't shoot. šŸ˜… Tweak here tweak there, poof. šŸ¤— I'm lucky that way.
