Looking to get a 10/22 TD with the 18.5” barrel threaded as a future suppressor host. Any good places in NC? Near Wilmington preferable but willing to ship the barrel as well.

Related, what should I expect to pay for this? Would I be better off just buying a threaded model? I’ve seen some aftermarket barrels but at $250+ I’d kinda rather have a second 10/22…

Thoughts appreciated.

Class 3 Machining out of Texas used to do that stuff for less than a $100 return shipped. Turn around for the many things I sent him was about 10 days door to door.

I've had barrels cut and threaded by Clayton Guns.

They do great work.

What is that, about an hour and a half drive?

I had my 10/22 barrel threaded years ago. The ‘smith said to not run a suppressor on it as there wasn’t much meat left. It was good for putting a muzzle break on and that’s it.

For less that what you’ll pay a shop to thread it, just buy one already factory made for it.

Great to know, thanks. Saw they had a tapered, threaded… so go bull barrel for suppressor.

I appreciate the post, but he needs a take down version.

I would get an aftermarket barrel. You usually get better performance than factory and you have the spare factory if needed. Buying another rifle just gets you two factory rifles. ;)

A bunch of options here in the $100-200 range.

Random aside, anyone use a Winchester Wildcat? Just saw they're making a threaded version now... cheaper than a 10/22 barrel and takes 10/22 mags.

I do get the accuracy imporvement from a quality aftermarket barrel, but I'm not trying to punch asprins at 200 yards either. Just want a quiet 22LR at 25-50 yards, maybe 75-100 if I'm bored.

Remember you've got a take-down version. Not the best platform for a tack-driver setup anyway.

Right, need a good bolt action then. That's what got me thinking I could get another rifle compatible with magazines I have and an already threaded barrel, and keep my take down as is... for about the cost of a spare barrel... threaded 10/22's seem pretty sparse, but can get a threaded Wildcat from LGS for $249.

That's not at all to say a "normal" 10/22 can't be made a tack-driver--they can. The take-down with a suppressor is a great SHTF truck gun (that's what I used to keep mine around for). Accurate enough to dump a mag into a 4x4 target at 25+ yards. You're not gonna save the world, but it'll part the seas in an unfriendly crowd if need be.

My take-down had a threaded factory barrel, so they do exist. Back to my original comment in this thread, the problem is when you convert an existing non-threaded barrel to threaded that you run into a possible weak connection.

All agreed, especially with a BX-25, plus you can eat, and carry a ton of rounds without much penalty.

I see the 10/22’s in that config, I just don’t actually see them for sale locally, and they want seemingly over MSRP plus shipping and FFL transfer locally, makes it hard to stomach. If I got lucky I’d probably jump on one. Guess I could sell my SS take down and get one but it’s a great gun on its own.

I could see a threaded bull barrel and MagPul Backpacker being a sweet setup though…
