Stopped at Bass Pro Shops in Cart today to use the restrooms and grab a cold drink. So of course I check on ammo. Nothing I needed, but I grabbed a couple 20 round Pmags. When checking out they required ID. New Bass Pro policy. I’ll be emailing them to express my displeasure. ID for mags? WTF?

Looks like they might be a no go zone for me going forward. I can get most things for less at Fuquay Gun & Gold anyway. Plenty of options.

Does it really matter though? How many places can you stop to take a piss and buy AR15 mags?

stupid? Yes, but reason to “cancel” them? Meh.

Why should you have to give ID for a Mag? Do you have to give Id for brake pads, plumbing supplies, kitchen ware?

Not saying cancel but it's a choice.

Nope. Like I said, it’s definitely stupid. But, poop and buy mags at the same store...think about it...

No go on taking a piss at Fuquay-Varina gun gold unless you like the porta potty. Amazed they don’t have a rest room indoors for customers, was told it was because of theft/concealing goods while in the toilet.

When Academy Sports opened in Apex a year or two ago they required an ID to buy a $3 bottle of Hoppes #9.
I mumbled, “These are not the droids you’re looking for” and they overrode it and checked me out.

Yeah I asked the guy at the registered but he was barely out of diapers and surely doing what he was told. I didn’t want to bust his balls or blame him. So I was polite and respectful. I’ll email them and express my displeasure. And maybe let them know I won’t be keeping their credit card if the policy is maintained. My money and spending is the only voice I really have so I’ll spend it with people that treat me best. There are other options.

Was it just a “glance at it” or what?

Yes. He didn’t enter any info in their system. Just annoying. Gotta fight these small battles so we don’t have to fight the big ones. I don’t want to give a freaking inch anymore. I’m done.

I didn’t really mumble the Star Wars greatest line ever. I did look shocked and told the young lady she really didn’t need my ID and explained why. It’s like when I tried to buy beer in Black Mountain a few years ago and they wanted to scan my NCDL. I made a scene and was asked to leave the store. I have since connected the dots and realized this large chain gas station had two small colleges within a few miles and they were just CYA, including checking a white bearded old fart’s ID.

I've been debating getting a more practical card for a while now since Cabelas doest have great prices outside of sales. That being said, I like having a slush fund of free gun money that my wife has no say in. Once I get an amazon card its gonna be 'another optic? dont you think its more prudent to get diapers or house plants" or w/e other boring crap. This way I get to say, 'gee babe, I wish I could use my credit points for window curtains, unfortunately its strictly a Cabelas card, so im gonna get this reloading press instead..."

If you are using their credit card, they already have all your ID info anyway

Yeah, good luck with that. They have women's clothes and shoes.

I'm trying to remember if the deli in the Ft. Mill location has beer. :D

Exactly. It’s freaking dumb. Just like when they ask for my email. They already have it. Just take my money and get me out of your store already. I want the quickest check out process possible. Not dumb crap that keeps me at the register.

And get off my damn lawn punks.

Here's my ID. Take it or not.

So you were so appalled and disgusted that you showed your displeasure by buying the mags anyway? You really showed them.

The last time that I bought anything from Triangle Shooting Academy (and granted it's been several years) they required a copy of your Drivers License to purchase ANYTHING. I recall buying some cleaning patches and having to not only show id, but for them to write down the number.

Haven't been back since.

I love Bass Pro shop, regardless of their firearms policies. I just don’t view them as a gun store. They carry tall size shirts there. Nobody else does. I buy all my shirts there. Bought fishing gear, of course. Camping gear. Wife might have bought some pants there.

I even tried to go in Dick’s today to help my son find life jackets for his new kayak. But they were closed temporarily.

I don’t judge a store by their stupidity, or corporate policies. If they have what I want, I don’t care if Soros owns them, I’m buying it they have it, especially if no one else has it.

I had this experience a few years ago, and haven’t been back for the very same reason, my comments about Bass Pro notwithstanding.

Yes, I was at the register and checking out. Surprisingly I am not a big enough dick to cause a scene and screw up all the other shoppers experience and inconvenience the cashier. I paid and left. There is a line between being surprised and upset and being a douche bag. In my Dad’s time they called that couth. Maybe a new concept for some.

I used to be that guy. Now I hold a grudge. We have options for most things. And I don’t like to feed the beast when it is avoidable. But we all have different priorities and preferences. I watch Netflix and they are evil SOB’s too.

I had to show ID to buy a can of spray paint at the HD not that long ago. They had to look at the ID and check a box in the system before it would allow them to proceed with the sale.

The sale of magazines or spray paint are not restricted by age.

Actually, spray paint sales are restricted in at least parts of the US. Here’s an excerpt from the Winston-Salem Municipal Code:

(5)
Sale at retail of spray paint. The sale at retail and use of spray paint is hereby restricted as follows:
a.
No person shall sell or otherwise transfer any spray paint to a minor unless the minor is accompanied by a parent or legal guardian at the time of purchase or transfer.

Many months ago I went to buy wine at the Food Lion in Carrboro. They wanted to scan my DL. I too made a scene refusing but left on my own. I then wrote a letter, paper, not email, to corporate and complained. I stopped in the plaza this week for other stuff and remembered I needed a few items including wine for the wife. They didn’t ask to scan my DL but did get a manager to quickly look at it and then use a key or card to override the register. What a stupid practice. They must be on the ropes for selling beer to someone under 21 (which is ridiculous anyway).

Just mess up the bar code on the back of your ID so it won't scan. I guess from riding in my wallet for years my ID suddenly stopped scanning and I've never had a problem. I've never understood why they needed to scan your ID unless they wanted to keep track of who is buying what.

They "huff" spray paint to get high.

My license stays in my wallet. If they want to see it, they can view it through the nifty little window my wallet has.

I like to make sure I buy paper bags too when I get paint. This way when they’re IDing me I can say “what, do I look too young to huff paint to you?”

Yeah, I know. So if I'm 16, I can't buy spray paint for my project? But if I'm 50 I can huff away? I can't buy magazines for my Dad for his birthday. It's all just silly. Save us from ourselves.

LOL, I have purchased worse combinations over the years...

Yep

Sorta related: some years back in Gander mtn. I was in line behind a young guy trying to purchase a tomahawk. They wouldn't sell it to him because he wasn't old enough. ?????? I took him aside told him to give me his $$, then I bought the thing with no problem, they didn't ask me for id. I met him outside, gave him the tomahawk, his change and receipt. I told him not to hurt himself as we parted ways.

I got carded for ammo at Academy the other day, which I kinda get even though I look way older than 21. It was the first time for it and I think she was pretty new. I'll show my ID quickly, but they will not take possession of it for scan or info taking.
