BCG

I think it all comes down to what metal it is made from, especially for the bolt. Carpenter 158 and 9310 are two of the better choices. Also the bolt needs to be MPI (magnetic particle inspected) and HP tested(high pressure) this should be etched onto the actual bolt. A company that has good quality control is also a good thing to look for. Also, the bolt takes all the initial force from the round and couldn’t be more important, & always remember, buy once cry once.

I feel like cheap BCG's are what I see fail most in AR's.
There's a lot of options (Semi-auto cut, full-auto cut, various lightweight, etc)
It really depends on the application and the budget. But, IME, they are not all the same and it's not worth saving 30-50$ to buy a cheap one. Just my opinion.

Can’t go wrong with a Toolcraft. Pay a little more for a nicer finish that wipes clean if you want. They also have a lifetime warranty and are made in NC.

Don’t think it’s necessary to buy a $300+ one IMHO.

A.O. Precision, MicroBest, or ToolCraft all provide high quality BCG's.

The first two companies produce BCG's built to the TDP specs for Colt. Toolcraft produces just about "everything else"

An easy way to tell if your bolt has been HPT is to look for the telltale marks around the firing pin bore on the face of the bolt.

MPI testing means nothing unless it has been HPT tested first. Both of these tests add cost to the BCG. Your provider should be able to provide certs for these tests.

Buy a quality BCG and run the crap outta it!

The goldilocks approach is good on this. Super cheapo ones are always a crapshoot as to who made them and what manufacturing/QC corners were cut to get them that cheap. On the other hand, the $300+ Noveskes and the like are not necessary for reliability. Toolcraft, BCM, Aero, hell even PSA are all fine. Sometimes you can snag a deal on some nicer ones like Larue, but if you are just throwing a build together you can't go wrong with Toolcraft.

I didn't know they are located in NC so that makes me want them even more!
