Be prepared to move the forum again

As long as we have adequate member support and no problems from our servers or Xenforo we intend to keep on keeping on. We're in it for the long haul and have no desire of throwing in the towel.

The waters ahead look rough but we're headed into the storm with all who pledge to stay the course.

They are setting a dangerous precedent for big data. China has a government controlled internet and firewall. They censor everything.

and don’t worry about the site being on aws. Ill run it on this on a tor .onion site if I have to.

I completely understand Twitter banning Trump.

I don’t understand Spotify banning him. Were they afraid he’d make a dank playlist?
if that's real, i'm not even surprised anymore
but the reason - just another form of #metoo

Have a look at Linode unless your committed to Winders. I don’t know what Amazon charges for the server capacity this site uses, but I run a smaller forum on Linode and use 1% of the data allocation (which includes all my email, music streaming, plus the forum) and barely scratch the CPU. XF is surprisingly lean in terms of its data storage too especially when you consider all the images stored in SQL blobs.

Edit to add, you can run in a foreign country too!

My neighbor told me yesterday that MySpace is actually growing like crazy right now, and that the CEO doesn't care who joins or what they say. Another called "Gab" (I think) is run by a Christian who said he has his own servers and that "God is in control".

The interwebz is about to get interesting.

Thanks to the staff here for staying the course.

That's odd that I order a lot of firearm accessories from Amazon. Scopes, rings, bases, stocks, dies, reloading tools, they even carry presses.

And I used to be able to buy an AR-15 and ammo at Walmart....

I certainly respect your opinion and if you see errors in my thinking over the next few statements I am all ears. "I really can't agree with anyone being banned for speech. Spelling and grammar are another story😂. Speech is the easiest accessed and clearest view into someones headspace. It occurs almost always before actions (which tend to actually cause harm). Think of speech as the canary in the coal mine. No canaries = no idea what is about to break off. Speech should be tolerated even when it is violently offensive to the ears. If I don't like what someone says I can either ignore it, plan on how to best deal with it, make a personal note to avoid this person etc. Without the running mouth, I may have no idea with whom I am associated, and sometimes that can cost you your ass."

I used to be able to buy an AR-15 through the mail.

But that one is a special one. It even takes clips

If I don't like what someone says I can...
This. You can TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR OWN ACTIONS based on what you saw, heard, or experienced. You don't need someone else to "protect" you from troubling, scary words.

I heard it attributed to Mark Twain (dunno if it was one of his): "Censorship is telling a man he can't have a steak because a baby couldn't chew it."

First we control the information
Second we confiscate weapons
Third we control everything
I read this somewhere I’m sure
Sounds like Alinsky's 8 steps to Socialism. His ghost must be getting quite the chubby right about now.
How to create a social state by Saul Alinsky:

There are eight levels of control that must be obtained before you are able to create a social state.

  1. Healthcare – Control healthcare and you control the people.
  2. Poverty – Increase the Poverty level as high as possible; poor people are easier to control and will not fight back if you are providing everything for them to live.
  3. Debt – Increase the debt to an unsustainable level. That way you are able to increase taxes, and this will produce more poverty.
  4. Gun Control – Remove the ability to defend themselves from the government. That way you are able to create a police state.
  5. Welfare – Take control of every aspect of their lives (Food, Housing, and Income).
  6. Education – Take control of what people read and listen to – take control of what children learn in school.
  7. Religion – Remove the belief in the God from the government and schools.
  8. Class Welfare – Divide the people into the wealthy and the poor. This will cause more disconnect, and it will be easier to take (tax) the wealthy with the support of the poor.

You mind sharing that spot in case I wake up one day and can't log on here?
I take nightly encrypted snapshots of the DB and offload them to a secure non AWS location.

Our traffic and dns is being routed through cloudflare so I can redirect our cache pretty easy. I’ve also separated attachments to a simple storage account so even if the server is somehow nuked the backend can still pull attachments with very minimal effort.

We don’t run an active active due to cost but I have a pretty solid active/passive plan in place.

I understood *most* of those words individually.
Even *some* strings of them.
My takeaway: the owners got the right geek and he got us covered

Then why didn't Twitter ban the Allatoah or Dems supporting the riots all last summer? Left has been calling Trump a dictator for years. Dictators censor. So those doing the censoring is the dictator.

Doesn't matter who your provider is if they want to get nasty all they have to do is block the DNS entry and it is gone forever.

Nope, attempting to block DNS won't work. Too many work around options. Even congress tried it with SOPA and finally gave up after enough tech gurus explained how it wouldn't work.
