I already have a benelli m2 with rifle sights. I am looking at drilling the receiver for a red dot and adding a mag extension.

I wanted to get a 1301 when I got the benelli but they were not available. should I sell the benelli and get the beretta before doing this work or do you think the benelli is just as good?

Benelli is the pace-setter in the semi auto market. Berettas are “right there” as well. You wouldn’t go wrong with either.

I own the Beretta 1301 Comp and love that thing.

Beretta is great.
Benelli M2 is the standard by which all others are judged, imo.

Benelli … Inertia Drive vs Beretta … gas gun. I have my old HK Benelli M1S90 that I dearly love and trust more than any other shotgun I own. Some say the Inertia Drive is harsher … I say just has a little more push. BUT my M1S90 runs cleaner than a gas gun … I’m ashamed to say it hasn’t been cleaned in almost 2 years (just a light lube coat every so often) … which is real nice. It would take something real different for me to leave an Inertia Drive Benelli … it might me just me but I truly believe that gun will be around longer than me.

I have 2 Benellis incl M2 and 2 A400s. The modern gas systems are marvelous but the simplicity of the Inertia action makes it a winner.

Can't go wrong with either gun, gas will have lower recoil if that is a concern.

Beretta.
Already set up for the things you want.
the beretta still needs a mag extension itself.

the issue with the m2 is the rifle sights on the barrel vs ghost rings. the rifle sights are faster but will not co-witness if I get a reddot.

I have never had more than a bead front sight (no rear sight at all) in any shotgun and can put slugs on IPSC targets at 100 yards.

Gonna delete these forums - now you all have me scoping out the 1301. Reading here costs me $$$$ 😉

Nice setup and the Extrema 2 gas system design looks to be ultra reliable . . . . even with low brass target loads.

I do like the ghost rings / rail ready to setup with cowitnessed optic.

I put a receiver ghost on my 870 riot gun setup and its great. My M2 bbl has the minimalist rifle sights on the bbl only. OK but hard to get sight picture in difficult conditions. I also have the spare M2 21" with rib and bigger front fiber optic but its extra length.

benelli makes a barrel with front ghost ring sight and you can get the rear drilled and tapped for a sight.

I recently bought a 1301 and like it so much that I bought another to keep by the bed and as a backup 3 gun gun.

As a Benelli owner and fan the 1301 Comp and Pro are tops in my opinion for about anything to include hunting. Inertia guns have there place but I never shot them because of the recoil. I’m seriously looking at a purchase even with all the shotguns I have. Nothing for home defense is better.

I handled the 18.5 1301 at a local shop and really, really liked it. Just wished they offered another option beside ghost ring sights. And they weren't so darn expensive. @$300 more than my 21" version, but @$300 cheaper than my 24" Comp Pro.

Will this work?

For my M1S90 I have a saddle type rail similar to this

I prefer, and also have a SpeedBead.

Does the Benelli have the same potential bolt release issues as the Beretta?

No. It's just smaller than the Beretta.

However, the issue with the bolt release was only on the Gen 1 Berettas. And they should all mostly be out of the "new" pipeline for a couple of years now. And even with those there are very nice aftermarket releases which eliminate the potential problem.

The Gen 2 Berettas fixed it and then some. The bolt release on the Gen 2 is probably significantly better/faster/easier to manipulate than the Benelli.
