Even if you can meat, it doesn't hurt to get backups, especially with the lid shortage.

This guy is a rookie, didn't even mention Vienna sausages in many flavors. Bbq is the best.
Or sardines. Which have more protein for the same amount of meat than anything he had listed.

Got those Viennas and Sardines right here.

Plain for both, but I keep sardines in mustard in the mix, too.

Packaged chicken keeps pretty well.
We always have canned tuna, chicken, and corned beef on hand.
Besides canned, Starkist makes these single serving chicken pouches now, they're like BBQ, Teriyaki, and several other flavors and they are supposed to be good for about 3 years.
The teriyaki ones are pretty decent dumped on a little rice.

Sardines, Cheez Whiz and Tabasco sauce.
Eat like a king in the woods.
I never want to visit that kingdom. 😫

Recommended by a friend. Five year shelf life. Great reviews if you're interested in other folks opinions.

First thing I thought was "SARDINES"! But then I saw @Chdamn already posted that right away.

A lot of people don't think "canned meat" for some reason. In fact, so few seem to think of it that the canned meat section of the grocery stores seems to be the last hit when people panic buy during emergencies.

For bulk, canned chicken and tuna are my go-tos, as they work well with other canned veggies to make quick dishes. You can get them in pretty decent sized cans, and pretty cheaply as well. Walmart's Great Value is fine for this.

For snacking at work, I usually have a few pouches of StarKist chicken or tuna creations. About 2 1/2 ounces in a variety of spiced flavors...like buffalo style, sweet & spicy, etc. Definitely more expensive than buying canned, but as a snack that keeps me from munching on other things, they're tasty and hit the spot.

Vienna sausages are great. Lots of memories of me and my father-in-law snacking on them while off working on something.

You can also find canned beef and pork. I've seen Keystone and Lehman's at Walmart. In nearly quart sized cans, too.

Spam? I never could get into Spam. I'll eat it, but not generally something I've been known to say "Hey, let's have Spam for lunch!"

My Favorites:
Reg SPAM (the shingle!!) - SPAM w/Bacon - Canned chicken in water - Tuna packed in water- Canned Salmon - Love Vienna' too
We keep a stock record, eat them periodically and re-stock as necessary.
Best to Me is Reg. Ole SPAM🐷

well, i made the mistake of reading the article.
bottom line : "Really, the answer is all of the above."

I just checked my shelves. Canned: chicken, tuna, viennas, spam, mackerel, crabmeat, and smoked oysters.

"Due dates" are usually 2-3 years out on the meats, but often 3-4 years on beans. Might be because I buy the meats on sale, and stock up on beans almost every grocery trip.

"Best" is subjective, of course, as far as flavor goes (for example, I'm out of Spam but have Armour Treet. I think I decided I liked that better last time I compared.) But I think I may add "longest eatable expectancy" to my Best criteria going forward.

My dad used to make Spam sandwiches. Fried Spam, tomato, onion slice, cheese, placed on a hamburger bun in the oven and broiled until the cheese melted over it all. Damn fine eatin!

We’ve stocked up on Swansons chicken breast. Not bad when you mix it with Dukes, spices and a little hot sauce.

All this potted meat talk is making me hungry! The one thing you will always see when the store shelves get bare are sardines and those are incredibly nutritious and store well. Folks dont know what they are missing. But I reckon Spam and Vieeena minni dogs are king of this hill! I didnt even know there was spam with Bacon?

Canned hams are heavy in my prep food. Tuna also. But my buddy just bought a freeze dryer machine and we plan on going heavy on freeze dried beef and venison
