12 months ago I weighed 451.3 lbs. I'm 6'5" and have always been big. I played division 3 lacrosse theoughtout college and football recreationally. One thing or another, i put on close to 200lbs after college. Last June i started getting healthy...I've tried everything in my life to lose weight...even tried an RX for wegovy for 1 month....i hated it and didnt lose weight. I decided last June to try keto and intermittent fasting after watching Dr. Berg and Dr. Jason Fong on YouTube and reading their books...the Obesity Code is a great read by the way...lots of terrible govt oversight is making people seriously sick...a topic for another day. I share all of this to say that I'm eating great food...high fat and high protein with low carb and no sugar or sugar substitutes (except erythratol and xylitol). I eat one meal a day and no snacks. I started at 2 meals a day and moved to 1 over time.

Today i feel great, my chronic gout is gone, ive reduced my prescriptions, feel a surge of strength and have lost any anxiety that came with being 450lbs. I'm down 125 lbs and just finished my first 5k. It wasnt a land speed record, but i never stopped jogging the whole time. Looking forward to my next 5k next week. I'm also down from 5x or 6x shirts to 3x and 4x, my pant size went from a snug 52/54 to a comfortable 42.

I don't share this to get an attaboy or a gold star from anyone...i did this for me.

I only share this with those who might be feeling like nothing has worked or feeling like giving up on their health...whether or not it's weight or anything else...small steps bring HUGE results. I've got another 100-125 lbs to go and I'm on track for later this fall to hit my goal.

One thing has been proven by actual science that gov't does not have the health interests of the people when they declare dietary recommendations. The food pyramid came about because the gov't wanted to push grains sales after subsidies were passed.
GFov't does not fund science. It funds outcomes.
I have to get back to work too. Some folks gained COVID 19# I Gained 100. AGAIN.
Lost it before. Time to get serious and lose it again and keep it off.

As you start getting close to your goal start looking at how you can make your new "diet" a lifestyle choice. I did Keto a while back and lost about 49 lbs. There was a point where I had basically lost too much. Wife was not happy about how I looked. lol. So I tweaked things along the way and found a way to eat that has kept most of it off and kept me feeling good. I would consider it low carb but not strict keto.

Keto can be great for loosing weight and resetting your tastes and food choices. But there are some instances where folks that did it long term developed health issues as well. Which is why I relaxed it a little when I had lost enough weight.

I'm at a point now where I have to add carbs to my diet if I'm working hard or working out hard. Glycogen depletion can be a real issue on a low carb diet. Oddly, it never bothered me on strict keto. Probably the difference in how your body burns foods for fuel between a strict keto diet and a diet with just enough carbs to not be keto.

Moral of the story, pay attention to your body. Make good adjustments if necessary. Not all things work for everyone. And sometimes what works now may change over time. If it does, just work to figure it out and don't let it discourage you.

Great job!

When do you eat your 1 meal a day?

I’ve done this off an on over the years but not on purpose. Lol. Like not hungry and breakfast and skip lunch to try and get stuff done.

But then eat like crap for dinner and snack before bed.

So just curious. Do you eat in the morning or afternoon or evening. I do well with a low carb diet anyway and need to get back on it.

I eat close to 11am each day...no later than 1pm, some people do breakfast only. The key is to fast as long as you can, 18 hours is good....22-24 is better. I try to eat as early as possible so by bedtime I've got an empty stomach. Eating high fat also helps you stay full longer. Eating before bed is a big "no no" with intermittent fasting. Snacks are also a no. I eat lot of beef, eggs, cheese, butter, beef tallow, pork, bacon, salad, cauliflower, brussel sprouts and avocado. Pecans are good too. I keep my carbs as close to 0 as i can with a max of 10-20 carbs if I'm feeling saucy. I eat alot of burger patties or steak with eggs. Chicken is ok, but low in fat...so when i eat chicken i eat thighs with the skin on. I never count calories...and eating this way ive lost weight when i dont exercise and when i do.

Oh...another thing ive discovered amd loved...is called a chaffle. Its a waffle but made with cheese, eggs, seasoning and maybe a touch of xantham gum if i want it cruncy. I use them as buns for burgers, wraps, or make em crunchy for chips. I also eat pork rinds/skins as they have no carbs.

There's a million videos and recipes....some are better than others
