Guys- this is a rare certification. If you ever want to work with or volunteer in youth shooting sports, you must have NRA credentials. Of those credentials, Muzzleloading Instructor is the most rare and probably most difficult to get. Many in the shooting sports have never had any formal training or education in the "dark arts" of shooting black powder. In addition to that, the Instructor portion of the series involves more than one type of arm. You will have to demonstrate proficiency in Rifle, Pistol and Shotgun in black powder to finish the final course. Lots of people whine about why there aren't kids getting involved, well, duh, if you don't get involved, neither will they. So to that end, we're holding the NRA Muzzleloading Instructor series of courses at Camp Raven Knob in NC. The first course of 3 is being offered on 10/9. It's a one day course. If you need to travel, there is a place to bunk at Camp Raven Knob. You'll need to bring a sleeping bag and dinner for Friday night. Saturday at 8a the fun begins. Basic Muzzleloading will run all day. Lunch and ammo will be provided. Come prepared to have fun, learn something and make new friends.

Time is getting near for the Basic Muzzleloading Class to be held at Camp Raven Knob in NC by the Yadkin Valley Rangers.

To become a NRA certified Muzzleloading Instructor, you must complete 3 classes- Basic Muzzleloading, Basic Instructor, Muzzleloading Instructor. There is no shortcut to this certification, hence it's not a commonly found one. If you want to ever work with most youth organizations in black powder, you must have this certification. I can't stress enough how important it is for adults to get involved with kids. Many on this and other black powder boards whine about the status of our sport, but the real question is what do you plan to do about it?

Even if you are already a long time muzzleloading/black powder person, you still have to go through the courses to be certified. The course is interesting, shooting is fun, and you'll meet other black powder enthusiasts and have opportunities to network you would otherwise not have.

Please reply by email as time is getting short and we have logistics to get settled soon.

Coming this weekend. Time to get on the bus......

Well the first Basic Muzzleloading course conducted by the Yadkin Valley Rangers is in the books. Weather at Camp Raven Knob was sketchy all day but we had use of the Barnhardt Training Center for class work and a range with covered firing points for the range component. Our NRA Training Counselor who is going to run the last two courses in this series in November asked us to also administer the range qualification component in addition to the course requirements so we spent a significant amount of time on the range shooting muzzleloading rifles, pistols and shotguns. For the shotgun side, we were using mainly a pair 1842 Macons, a smoothbore from the Civil War of which one was an original and the other a repop. They make dandy 14ga shotguns for skeet. Now we're getting the last two classes finalized and projected date is Nov 20-21 at the same place. That date will include NRA Basic Instructor Training and NRA Muzzleloading Instructor Training. And a couple pix from the day-

Skeet shooting with an original 1842 Macon. This gentleman was new to muzzleloading and as it turned out, he's a great shot that hit everything he aimed at with rifle pistol and shotgun and he's an all round great guy. Welcome to the darkside of shooting sports!

And a friend of mine. "Did I get it?" he said as orange debris were raining downrange.

Good info, good company, and good times! Thanks for putting this on.

I'm pleased for the Yadkin Valley Rangers to finally be able to announce the last two parts to the NRA Muzzleloading Instructor series.

It will be held 11/19-21 at Camp Raven Knob. The first class will be the Basic Instructor Training followed by the Muzzleloading Instructor Training. Class will begin on Friday evening at 6p at the Training Center at Camp Raven Knob and will go until finished on Sunday afternoon. Meals will be provided and the Training Center has sleeping accommodations. Cost is $150 for both classes and includes meals, materials and lodging at the center. Prior completion of Basic Muzzleloading is required.

This is an intense couple days of training in the methodology of instruction. Those who are interested in helping work with youth in any shooting sports programs must be NRA Certified Instructors. The NRA Muzzleloading Instructor certification is among the rarest and in working with kids, we need muzzleloading instructors.
