Anyone heard anything about blm going to show up in Morganton this evening? They supposed to be going to vandalize a confederate statue on the square. I talked to a Burke County Sargent at the sheriff’s dept. this morning, and said they were monitoring social media to see if it was a hoax or credible.

Apparently LE is hanging around as are some "boots on the ground" folks that seem to be, lets say, anti protestors. I'm on a local 2A group and there has been some chatter about it this morning. Saying it might start up about 5 pm.

I tired to track down confirmation on what happened in Newton a few weeks back. They do the Old Soldiers Reunion every year and throw a big parade and party. I was told the SAR and the Outlaw motorcycle club showed up, some armed, and stood around the statue there. But could not find any pics or confirmation of that. And the protest there never got out of hand either.

I am an admin on the Burke County second amendment sanctuary page. It is bristling! The Morganton Department of Public Safety seems to think it's a credible threat. A sergeant there told us that we should be armed and vigilant. We had a rash purple wanting to join the group last night. Most were rife with antifa and BLM propaganda. They, of course, were denied. We have members on recon and reporting. The Sons of the Confederacy are also on-site, and have been for days. Protest all you want. Tearing down and defacing monuments is not protesting. If you want it down, go through the proper channels. Last I knew, monuments, including confederate monuments, were protected.

News at six showed a standoff between BLM and some 50 or so guys, some with rifles. I think they said both sides were armed, groups about 30 ft apart. The police seemed to have a strong line between the two. Looked pretty subdued.

Which direction were the police facing?

That isn’t Cary, Chapel Hill, or Raleigh. There will be people with balls protecting.

Maybe, but us triangle folk can also write a check for that guy with the AR15 to get himself a damn sling....

In all seriousness though, good to see people standing up. I wish it were for more than some fridge statue, but gotta start somewhere I suppose. step 1, desensitize media to seeing armed folks protecting their communities [statues]. step 2, armed protection of community against jobless vandals who have martyred a career criminal who points guns at pregnant women bellies. step 3?...

The cops seemed to me to be facing BLM guys. In the video above you can see the cops were not being challenged at all. Maybe they were an hour earlier.
Yeah, I don't doubt that the police would mind a little break from shooting people at the moment should things get hot...

It was a little heated early on. Protesters were getting up on the cops. Morganton Public Safety called in all Burke County cops and area NCHP for backup. They came in full crowd control gear.

By protesters, you mean the BLM crowd?

This probably won't answer your question but,... the majority of the ones I saw chanting "black lives matter" were white.

That isn't surprising. I'm guessing those who were there to prevent vandalism are not the ones you were calling protesters and are not the ones that were getting up on the cops?

We were there on Monday, enjoying mighty fine food at Uncle Eee's within a stone's throw where that pic was taken. I highly recommend it. Great burgers. Great shakes. Great onion rings!

As we drove past the statue, one of my kids asked if it was in danger of vandalism. I told him that the citizens of Burke County wouldn't put up with vandalism to its statues like some other places do. Guess I was right.

Uncle Eee's burgers are awesome and maybe the best I've ever had. It's a close call between them and Tri-County Music Bar down Hwy 18 between Morganton and Shelby.

That last pic is great haha. Police cars jam packed, parked down the whole street.

I read on the book of faces that most Burke County deputies and all NCSHP in immediate area were called in to keep the peace. Don't know if that was true, but there were a crap ton of them there. Also read that they are keeping deputies out there tonight to guard the monument.

The BLM might not topple the statute but they will deface it at some point ... cockroaches crawl in the shadows.

It's been defaced many times already. Paint has been thrown on it, the plaques with the names of the soldiers have been scratched/damaged, people have thrown objects at and damaged it, etc. I figure it's only a matter of time before someone does real damage or ole Roy has it taken down.

Yes sir. Sorry for the confusion. Was peaceful all day. Then less than a dozen BLM supporters showed up, and started flaring tempers. I was listening to BC on the scanner, and they called in anyone in the area, including Caldwell county, NCHP, and BC sheriff's dept. Called for them to show up in riot gear on the radio.

The ancient Celts considered it a measure of manly prowess to charge into battle with a full erection. They were often nearly to fully naked when so doing.

...and painted blue.

My ancestors were amongst 'em.

So what you're saying is, political violence is the answer?

when it gets bad enough the answer is a astounding yes. Dr Zurs books didn’t work well with my kids. It’s hard to debate a argument when you opponent is throwing bricks. Sadly some people only respond to violence.

Political violence?? BLM is not a political organization, it is a terrorist group.
The mayors and governors tell the cops to stand down when there is rioting, mayhem, looting and killing going on. Have the cops stand down and vacate the area when there are people there willing to stop the rioting, mayhem, looting and killing.
