I have a Bog Death Grip aluminum version that I bought on sale a while ago and I am now getting used to shooting off of it and using it for deer hunting. I love the options it gives me while hunting. From shooting prone to standing up its a solid mount and my favorite way to shoot a rifle. I don’t like how heavy it is.

I bought this to see if I liked shooting off a tripod before I spent money on a nice one. I‘ve researched ways to change out the mount on the tripod which some claim weights 3-4 pounds. Using the oem mount has been okay but I think I would like an arca rail connection for better repeatability and also weight savings.

Little Crow Gun Works sells a ball head conversion on their website that I was looking at. I own some of their reloading tools in the and have been nothing but pleased with them.https://www.littlecrowgunworks.com/store1/360-Ball-Mount-Adapter-Kit-with-ARCA-for-the-BOG-Deathgrip-Tripod-44lb-Rating-p531774549

I have also seen some conversion kits for sell on Etsy and eBay as well as some diy videos on YouTube. The way the guy did it in the YouTube video he had to use a lot of make shift spacers to get everything to work and it just didn’t seem like it would be 100% solid reliable. Some of the kits on Etsy and eBay are confusing as to what is actually included in the packaging.

Has anyone converted their death grip tripod to use a ball head and we’re you happy with your decision? Did replacing the oem mount with a ball head save a noticeable amount of weight? Did you buy a kit or did you diy?

I've covered the aluminum one I have. I'll have to find my thread and link it. It is much lighter.

I like that. Especially with the extension. Sitting down can be awkward sometimes finding the right height. I take it you’re pleased with it overall? Is the ball head plenty strong?

I really like it. The extension makes it more usable on uneven terrain for my height. The Ball Head is fantastic!

I got home from Christmas travels last night and my ball head was on the porch. I went to Home Depot and got (1) 3/8” eye bolt, (4) 3/8”x1 1/2” washers, (1) 3/8” nut, and (1) 3/8” lock nut, a short piece of 5/8” OD 3/8” ID braided rubber hose, a short piece of 3/4” PVC pipe and some duct tape to wrap around the pvc and the hose to make it a little thicker.

This video shows exactly what I did. If anyone in the future finds this and needs some inspiration.

I needed a mlok to Arca adapter and it came in today. This feels great behind the gun and it’s so much lighter. I need to figure out how to attach an arca adapter to a couple bolt guns. The Bergara should be easy enough it’s aluminum. I plan to thread the stock with a tap and die and just screw the adapter to the stock via the new threaded holes. The Ruger American Ranch is going to be a little more tricky. It‘s plastic and the bottom side of the factory stock is rounded not flat. 757C60FB-9CB2-47EB-977D-E56AAF1A480F.jpeg

I mounted a cheap mlok to arca mount on my B14r. I used a Milwaukee 8-32 tap from Home Depot that goes in a drill or impact and you can drill and tap in one step. I need to take it off and grind the little mlok nipples off the top of the mount but I think this will work. That is not your eyes playing tricks on you it’s just a hair off center and out of square. 2ED1004B-C67C-4FE8-8797-FEE61F795E7C.jpegFCCEFEEC-C001-4CDD-AD8C-ECB5B139F733.jpeg3EB0FC2E-1E06-493E-80EA-C194A9E7628C.jpeg Next up is my Ruger American Ranch 300 blackout and it is going to be a little trickier to get a mount on that.

Nice stuff guys.

For those of you that have these, do y'all think it'd handle 50 cal weight and recoil?
I am sure one of the higher priced options would work for a 50. I would not trust that much weight on my bog contraption. Look at Really Right Stuff or Two Vets I am sure there are more companies that make something that would work but these are the two that come to mind.
