At a match a couple weeks ago, I cut my finger. I could have had 6 tourniquets applied inside of a minute with all the guys kitted out for the match. But, it took some creativity to jury rig a simple band aid. So, I’m putting together a non-emergency kit for the truck.

Assume that TQ, clotting agents, pressure bandages and other trauma gear is covered already.
Best to just go with a commercial First Aid kit ready made? Or piece my own together?

If you have a kit you’ve thrown together, what’s in it?

Yeah, with 4 kids and my clumsy self we always have just a cheap walmart first aid kit around.

Normally something similar to this is in all our cars:
Amazon product ASIN B0B41MYSGP
We bought one like this for the house:
Amazon product ASIN B08P27LHJ4
We still have to refill on basic bandaids from time to time as my kids apparently think they cure everything from cuts and scratches to hurt feelings and bruises.

The commercial first aid kit I keep in my truck. Has scissors, oitment, band-aids, etc. I did add some larger band-aids and lip balm.
It has a carry strap, and loops on the back if I want to attach to a back pack, etc.

I carry a little zipper pouch with various sizes of quick clot patch, bandaids, liquid wound sealant and a big clotting bandage/packing cloth.

Most of the right now stuff involves stopping the red leaking out too much. Almost all my kit covers that, figure the rest can wait on 911.

I keep this is my truck. Cheap harbor freight case with two kits and other miscellaneous stuff inside that I pieced together. I don’t think I’ve opened the “blowout“ bag since it was packed and put in the case. Boo boo kit on the other hand gets used fairly often. Mostly just band aides, med tape, squeezers, neosporin, Q tips, burn gel, advil, Tylenol, mole skin, super glue, emergency blanket, after bite, aloe, sharpies etc etc. Couple pair of gloves, ace, and epipen on top everything else is in the boo boo bag or blow out bag.

I always have cloth band-aides in a couple different sizes.
Combine them as needed to cover a cut until you get to better supplies.

FWIW this is the woods boo-boo kit I tote. Packed it with decent quality bandages after gettin frustrated with the cheapies that come in kits.
If I'm needin this mess I'm prolly annoyed and not in the mood to play with junk. Some first aid ointments, some coban, and the obligatory Bic/electrical tape/gauze/P38/Blue Towels/firestarter and other sundries I like to keep "on me". I like the waterproof container cause I spend a lotta time around creeks. That goes in this lil molle pouch I picked up at Delk's. There's several of these around the truck for different setups.

Here is what I keep in my general purpose FAK’s, one in each vehicle, one for garage, one for range bag. As you can imagine, the bandaids get the most use but it’s nice to have enough to cover a variety of situations while also not having to carry a duffel bag.

6x9 Pouch
SAM splint
Bandaids 8 med & 2 large
3 Triple antibiotic
3 Burn cream
3 Hydrocortisone cream
2pr nitrile gloves
4 Bactine alk-free antiseptic wipes
Sports wrap
1 Gauze wrap
2 Non stick gauze 3x4
3 Gauze 3x3
Med Tape
Tweezers
Shears
Tourniquet
Duct tape 5ft
1 Wound seal powder
1 Israeli bandage 4”
1 emergency blanket
Meds
*Ibuprofen, antacid, Tylenol, antihistamine, aspirin, antidiarrheal
Chest vent
2 pr hand warmers
Chapstick
Safety pin

Pre-C19 these cost me about $60ea to put together and they’re super cheap to maintain using subscribe & save for small packets of meds and creams.

Some things have changed since this pic, such as staging the TQ.

my boo-boo kit is contained in a small Zip-Loc transparent plastic bag.
Band-Aids, tiny forceps, baby aspirin, Leukotape (the best), and wipes.

You can get a basic pouch like this and fill it with what you want.

EXCELLENT ELITE SPANKER Tactical Molle EDC Pouch https://a.co/d/73mPxEK

Or buy a premade kit like this one:

I opted to buy a bunch of those pouches and fill them up with stuff.... it's a good way to clean out end of year FSA funds

If you carry chapstick in your kit and leave it in your vehicle in the hot summer months, you might end up with a mess. The chapstick will melt and might run out, had it happen. Same thing will happen if you leave a tube in your pocket and it goes through the washer and dryer.

I use a commercial kit off Amazon and added crazy glue and zip stitch bandages for nastier cuts, along with some ibuprofen and Tylenol.

thanks for posting about "zip stitch".
i had no idea. i am ordering some
to test out. thanks again.

Basic FAK is so overlooked oftentimes.
For me - I always have a few bandaids in a pack Im carrying. Not much, just a bandid. Most of what I'll, or anyone Im around, will need is a basic bandage.

Go to walmart, get a cheap kit
OR, like me, just toss some stuff into an old altoids kit
Tylenol, bandages etc
It'll fit in your pocket or about any pocket on a bag
