I have a model 1 and am curious about how the quality of the earlier model 2's compare to it. Anybody have both?

Tagged for interest. I’m assuming your talking about 2LR?

Right .22 LR. I like shooting iron sights but the front blades in different heights are hard to find especially the taller ones. A model 2 has the more adjustable rear,

My experience has been both are excellent rifles. I don't have a Model 1 anymore, but still have a Model 2. I like the sights better on the Model 2. If I could have just one, it would be the Model 2.

What year is your model

What year is your model 2? I had a 1977 model 2 briefly, but didn't have the time then to see how accurate it could be. The fit and finish on that one was not nearly as nice as the model 1 I recently bought but as you said, the sights are much better on the model 2's.

I'll have to look. I agree that fit and finish on later Model 2s isn't as good as Model 1s. I bought three Model 2s back when a distributor had them. One was from the 50s and the other two from the 70s, off the top of my head. I can't remember which one I kept.

One of the '70s :D

I guess I just got a rough one from 1977. I should have bought a No. 2 when JG Sales had them but their description made them sound pretty ragged. Guess it would have been luck of the draw,. I'l find a decent No. 2 somewhere at a fair price. Compared to USA made rifles, there aren't that many in this country so not many for sale. I've got a selection of front sight blades coming so if I can get the rifle set up for 25 yards shooting it would do me for a while.
Thanks for the info.

Dud3s, WTF are you doing? Come on already. Thread is useless without pictures. And preferably a few BST trade threads.
