Budget longish range rifle

Make sure the barrel is free floated ( Not touching the stock anywhere forward of recoil lug) And it should be fine

Well no groups. The only range I have access to is Leeds rifle range and man were there alot of people! Lol

And the barrel is free floating. The trigger is breaking at 5lbs. Not really bad but it can definitely be improved by the Timmy I have coming.

Will update when I can get to the range. Have some 12hour days at work coming up... Yay! Lol

OK guys. I'm going to order a stock from Boyd's. Should I pay the extra $60 for the adjustable cheek rest built into the stock or buy a kydex one for $45? Thanks

I would get the adjustable from Boyd's

Picked up a Mossberg Patriot oh..about a year ago, in 30-06.
Stuck an econo BSA 3-9x40 scope on it, wasn't sure I wanted a 3-9x40...wanted to try it first and then step up to a decent Nikon.
I got the Kryptec Camo stock for a very critical reason; it was on sale.

The rifle is surprisingly good. Fluted, button rifled, free floated & crowned 22" barrel, Spiral bolt, Adjustable LBT(lightning Bolt Trigger)that breaks sub 3lbs, and can be taken down to sub 2lbs if desired. The trigger is exceptionally nice for a budget rifle. The stock has a great cheekweld and purchase,,natural feel. Built in pic rail on the receiver.

This is from about 90ish yards using a front rest. (yeah sorry. 100 yards is long range for us lol)
8" shoot n see

What could be better-
The bolt has a looser feeling. It works fine and all, slick, but it ain't no Browning.
The mag, works fine, but could be more robust.
In retrospect, I should've gotten the wood stock with the supplied Vortex 3-9x40. The Vortex is a nice scope, and the added weight of a wood stock would help with recoil. Rifle with scope weighs less than 7lbs and kicks pretty fair. The recoil pad however is nice & cushy.

I'm not a hunter, but I'd have no problem using this rifle on anything we got around here.

Overall I'm real happy with it. I've got $350 in this set-up and have decided to run that BSA until it falls apart.

I've got a good friend that built his rifle off the Axis. He has one numerous matches and comes in the top 10. While other have 6+k in their's he has 2-3k and whoops butt.

If you think it has too much recoil, have you considered the price for putting a muzzle break vs changing the stock?

No dalek I haven't really considered those options.
It doesn't have 'too' much recoil, you just gotta be aware of what it's gonna do.
The barrel isn't threaded, and the funky color of the stock has kinda grown on me.
The most rounds I've shoved through it were 14 at one sitting, and then I was ready to stop. Obviously, it's not a plinker lol.

I picked this up because I really didn't have any bear-stopping rifles. I have one bear that likes to claw at my trees and turn over rocks looking for bugs, and he's a pretty good size. An old gray face that's probably 450lbs. But he's been here for years, doesn't bother anyone, and I'm not gonna shoot him. He's a good old boy and keeps the peace in bear-world.

Finally got to the range. Tried a few different rounds but she liked the American eagle 50gr hollow point the best. Really didn't like the 62gr boat tails.

Best group was all 3 rounds touching. But I didn't get a pic of it...

Need to install the Timmy trigger and order a better stock for her.

Should I try loading some 60gr + or should I stick with the lighter bullets?

What's the barrel length and twist?
Don't know heavier/lighter will affect much but it might.
Did you try any decent 55gr? Wouldn't surprise me if they've tuned that rifle to throw those since they're so common.

How far and did you use a rest? Those are good groups for a maiden voyage.

no decent 55gr. Will try and find some.

Distance was 100yds, only have a bipod ATM. And using my hand on the back of the stock. Not very stable.... Need to get some bags.

Got my Timmy trigger installed. Breaks at 2lbs! Very nice!! The scope base I ordered was not the right one.... Lol have to order the right one.

Hope to get to the range next week and do some more shooting.
