I’m planning on swapping out my 4.5” 22lr barrel for a 9”. Do y’all think bulk pack ammo will stay subsonic with the extra barrel length?

With bulk pack I don’t believe so. What type of barrel is the 4.5 and the 9?

Some of the 10/22 barrels have rifling designed to keep ammo subsonic at that length.

When I had a custom .22lr AR upper built years ago, I recall 4.5” being the magic number for most bulk pack to stay subsonic.

.22lr barrel, not a 5.56/.223

Most bulk is High Velocity. I’ve a pistol with a 2.5” barrel and it isn’t 100% subsonic with Fed bulk, I think you’ll be out of luck at 9”.

@BigWaylon convinced me to cut my 15-22 barrel to 4.5" for that reason.

I forget the words he used, though.

but but but.....my suppressor sits too far inside the hand guard so when I want to bounce it to another gun it's a pain to get off!

Sounds like “my suppressor” is the problem. The solution is another one. :D

Federal red box .22 is subsonic out of my Buckmark with a 5.5" TacSol barrel. It's quiet enough with the can, that wearing ear-pro, the missus thought the gun hadn't fired. Told her to take her ears off & try it & like to never got it back from her.
