Cool, except for schools that don’t allow backpacks in classrooms.

Surely, someone out there makes some child-sized AR500 plates and plate carriers? Or teen-sized kevlar helmets? You could add a phone holder and a bluetooth camera.

If youre that scared send them to a private school or homeschool.

One of my boys put his level 3a steel plate in his backpack some time ago. He had it with him during the active shooter at his school UNCC recently. Luckily he was in the Engineering parking deck at the time, but he had it (and an IFAK) with him. So depends on the school i guess. You don't know when the active shooter is going to happen. My boy was stuck in his car in the parking deck and on the phone with me for over 2 hours. He also had his Sig P220 with him. So i am all for having it and not needing it.

My youngest boy is still in Junior High and he will have a soft armor plate in his backpack come fall. He also has some medical training and got his first CAT7 Saturday from Ryan at Apex Defense group. He has been through Stop the Bleed too.

It is no guarantee of course, you can come with all kinds of scenarios for and against. You don't know when it's going to hit the fan. But the same reason i carry a gun is the same reason it makes sense to have some armor if you can. Schools are full of unarmed targets... My boy keeps running the scenario over in his head, If he would react like Riley Howell did. He was having issues with it for several weeks. Riley gave his life to stop the threat. He soaked up a bunch of rounds and fell on the piece of shit. Would a bullet proof backpack have helped? Yea, maybe so. You don't know how you would react, training helps, having the right tools help. Active shooters are real people. Crazy is among us. Best be prepared as you can and hope you can make a difference when it goes down. It's about all you can do.

that's like if you're scared enough to have a fire extinguisher in your house, build everything out of stone. Armor has it's place and it's not exclusively for adults.

After the Butler high school schooting, I gave my son a Level III rifle rated plate to put in the laptop portion of his backpack. He carried it the rest of his senior year, and then bought his own plate carrier after graduation and I bought him another plate.
