You know its coming . . .

"There's this pastime that crew members sometimes do, it's called 'plinking,' and they go out into the rural areas and they shoot at beer cans. This is with live ammunition."

Personally I find plinking far less enjoyable with blanks . . . especially with reactive targets . . . 😆

It's a job. And this is what happens when safety isn't taken seriously. There needs to be zero plinking or other screwing around during filming. Want to plink? Do it after the final day of filming. I'm sure the armorer could arrange that.

But the cool kids working with the cool toys want to do the cool things they can't do in their normal lives. I understand it. I'd love to get my hands of some of that stuff to shoot it given the chance. But the armorer should have the nerve to put a stop to it during filming. My guess is since she didn't some gov or trade entity will now have to step in and end the plinking entirely.

Maybe they need to switch to emptying and shooting soda, instead of beer, cans before shooting or filming.

Ya’ll saying that we need more gun laws?

I'm saying that when people do something this incredibly stupid it invited the kind of scrutiny that will get those laws started.

Lets be honest. I'm guessing anyone with half a brain and half an interest in firearms safety thinks there should be zero live rounds on set for the studio guns. None. That alone means no plinking. But since they can't manage that themselves it has a lot of attention right now. People being responsible don't draw that kind of attention. But people that are clueless and dangerous sure do.

And this goes far beyond gun laws. Workplace safety, OSHA, union practices, trade craft, firearms safety; there are a lot of things at play on this one. I'm guessing someone steps in here, if not with a law with a push in the trade to harden up the protocols.

Right.

Also, you don't "plink" with prop guns in the first place. Prop guns are PROP GUNS. They should NEVER be used for ANYTHING else. Period.
