Charges $30.00, and they do a good job.
Who is the cheapest on handgun transfer around Raleigh?
Nothing. Just their policy. Not sure exactly why, but I think they want to encourage buying new guns from them.
Wait. They charge a transfer on their own guns?
Acme Bullet Co. Mebane, NC $20.00.
No. If you purchase a new gun and have it shipped to them for transfer, it is $35. If you have a USED gun shipped to them - $25.
That was the policy a couple of years ago when I had a used gun transferred through them. Don't know if that is still the case.
I'd say it's not about the paperwork. With a used gun, they figure they didn't have the option to make the profit. With a new gun they did, and they'll recover $10 of it with the transfer. That's the weirdest policy I've ever heard. New or used, same paperwork...
Knightdale Pawn is $20
Not as bad as some of the places that charge ridiculous prices for transfers from Bud's/etc. Like this crap from The Range @ Lake Norman:
- FFL transfers* – $0.00 – $100.00 (varies by membership level, prices are per firearm)
- Standard Transfers from shops not listed below – $40.00
- Non-Members – Bud’s Gun shop/Cheaper Than Dirt/Gunbuyer.com/Impact Guns/grabagun transfers – $75.00
- Palmetto State Armory/CDNN/Direct ship from any distributor – $100.00

Not that it really matters, but I wanted to make sure my "theory" was clear.Still don't the different transfer price for new vs used guns that come from somewhere else... Who are they recovering it from? Also, margins are much better on used guns than new. So that doesn't make sense either.

With the used gun, if they didn't have one to sell, they're not losing the opportunity to make a profit on the firearm so they charge their normal rate.
With a new gun, they'd prefer you buy it from them so they make the profit on the firearm (since they wouldn't be charging a transfer fee)...which I assume is more than $25 in most instances. They're tacking on $10 to the transfer of a new gun to recover some of that missed profit opportunity.
I'm not saying I agree with it...only that I can see that being their justification. Hey, at least it's not the $100 fee for a transfer from PSA through TR@LN like I posted above.
Often $25 is about the margin on a given handgun... I guess your theory makes sense, but it's still dumb policy...
Part I dont understand is that I imagine on a new gun an FFL usually has capital at risk, eg order it from the distributor on their line of credit ( or has it in stock after some regular restock, same credit, or worse, COD at play) and only realizes any profit on a sale. Sure theres all kinds of Manufacturer deals or distributor deals but at the end of the day they aren't going to float the FFLs $ investment for very long. Any transfer that falls into their lap represents a profit opportunity without any capital investment by the FFL. If margins are as thin as some folks say, wouldn't the transfers be at net more interesting to the FFL ?
So, @bigfelipe , I've noticed you made 5 posts here but have not mentioned where you get your transfers done.
thanks Amnesia. $20 TRANSFERS, $15 FOR CFF Members.
In fact, I chatted with the owner of a small LGS about the crazy prices available online. He admitted he'd prefer to do FFL transfers because it is all profit with no inventory expense.
This. If you have a permit, I believe it is the cost of pen ink and pulling open a drawer. The form doesn't go anywhere unless the LGS goes out of business.
That's the guy I was referring to in my earlier post. And I use Horneytown Guns and Ammo, both for the name and the $20/gun charge.
PDHSC in Raleigh $30 Triangle Shooting Academy $40 (Members $25)
FYI Denver Defense in Denver, NC quoted me $75!
Yes they collect sakes tax, I don't agree with that.TSA is $26.18 since they charge sales tax(???)
Yes they collect sakes tax, I don't agree with that.
I get emails when NC decides there should be another tax charged for something, most "services" or "labor" can be charged tax now on top of the product also.
Same thing at Denver Defense... probably has something to do with the fact that the guy who owns The Range just purchased Denver Defense.I'd say it's not about the paperwork. With a used gun, they figure they didn't have the option to make the profit. With a new gun they did, and they'll recover $10 of it with the transfer.
