The car-wash industry has become a hotbed of private-equity activity.
Investors are now paying big prices for regional chains—as much as 18-to-20 times earnings
before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization, according to bankers involved in the deals.

A few giant corporations and billionaires will very soon control everything.

Then they'll lobby the government to ban washing your own car at home because they use so much less water. One more step down the path of us being totally controlled

Seeing more and more of those mod-wash places.

Honestly, I wanted to do a car wash for a long long time, seems like the profit margins would be huge. Well, once you pay for the 'building'

that is the problem i am seeing: land/construction costs.
just like the old Drive-In Movies....the land was too valuable.
what "used to be" out in the country, was just right for development.

independent car washes "used to be" on the edge of town.
now, they are center-stage. combined with increasing real estate taxes,
i am sure the wheelers-and-dealers have offered the owners enough
incentive to take the money and run.

I use this thing called rain. It's cheap.
In Colorado, that is illegal. Collecting rain water is illegal. Having a water faucet outside one home is also illegal. One must have the "outdoor" faucet inside the garage. One can only wash one's car inside a garage.
Water rights contracts that are over a century only are the cause.

Edit: see #13 below. Colorado finally fixed that issue issue in 2016.

I will buy wash tickets for scout fundraisers and use them. I will sometimes use the wand-style to wash my mats.

Not true at all. 2 barrels are allowed

Also not true about washing in a garage.

Outdoor spigot aren't illegal either. They are perfectly legal. If they are inside its to prevent freezing.

Where do people come up with the crap they post.

I'm pretty sure I'm allowed to have my car outside when rain falls. Some of the rain falls on the car.
