Anyone have intel on the defensive pistol match out at CVR&P?

I know the next one is scheduled for Oct. 17th, but I can’t find anything on a rule set or divisions.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

I’m a member there, I’ll see if I can find something out for you if I can get to the next meeting.

I shoot it every month I can; best $10 I spend every month as a matter of fact.

Personally, I refer to it as a monthly DefGun “workshop” as the whole event got started more as an oppty for those who wish to shoot their (actual) edc or home def guns than it is any type of “match,” per se … that said, there are several shooters who instead shoot the same more competition-oriented guns they shoot in 3-gun or USPSA but, most shoot factory stock carry guns.

Mag capacities are limited to 10rds (+ 1 in the tube at start) and neither a holster, belt or mag pouches are required; some shooters bring their cased handgun to the starting position when called up and start each stage at low ready; this is because …

A secondary reason for the monthly event is to introduce shooters are completely NEW to any type of scored, timed or structured stages. I mention this cuz the emphasis is on assisting those very shooters who might be looked upon at other matches as “slowing things down.” (I also mention it as I failed to mention it to a neighbor I invited who assumed things were going to run at “normal match speed” and he found himself getting impatient as the Match Director and CRSO worked with a new shooter with a new gun. This monthly event is quite literally there for those who may require instruction, not my neighbor, Dick.)

So, call it a “match” or a “workshop” or just “4 quick stages inside one bay,” the “event” occurs as an opportunity for: a) shooters to shoot stages with their actual carry guns (which many actual “match” stages may not be so conducive to); and, b) shooters who’ve NEVER shot under a timer, on structured stages, multiple “threats,” using cover, movement in between or while actually shooting, etc. to “get their feet wet.”

If I get this wrong someone can correct me but, iirc the 4 stages each month are shot according to ASI Rules (here: https://asi-usa.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/ASI_Rulebook_v2_Jan2019.pdf )

Each stage involves: all paper targets (typically IDPA, uspsa or ipsc cardboards); 1 reload (more if shooting revolver or 7-rd carry pieces, etc,); movement (simulated hallways); shooting around cover, through ports or from behind concealment; some starts from seated in front of a table with gun on table position; and depending upon the level of treachery the stage designer was at, all manner of no-shoots, head shots only and/or targets situated so some “threading of needles” is involved between alignment of sights and trigger press(es). (There’s the “workshop” concept, imo, anyway…)

One last item and then fire away with any specific questions: a third criteria of the extremely experienced MD and CRSO who birthed this whole event is, “get in and out” as in, safety briefing starts SHARPLY at the designated time (it does my heart good to see shooters who show up late turned away or “invited to stay and help paste“ rather than punish every one else who showed up on time by catering to those hallowed chumps who find it difficult to be on time) and the whole event is over in 3-hours or less. (That is only possible when everyone who is not just shot or next up helps paste so the SO’s can get scoring completed efficiently.)

Oh yeah, round counts for entire event are typically under 100 rds (or 2 boxes of ammo)

ETA: this year has been the year from Hades as far as visitors to our lake house (I ain’t complainin’!) so, there‘ve been a bunch of times it has been tricky for me to commit to certain dates but, the way it looks now, I expect to be able to shoot the OCT 17 event (3rd Sunday @ month) and it is open to non-members so, if you want member‘s cell # PM me so you don’t chance encountering a closed gate.

Wow, you guys absolutely ROCK!!

Thanks so much for the detailed information. It sounds like something I’d like to come out for. Particularly with it being so close to the house.

Hope you meet y’all at the match this month.

I want to come to the Nov 20, 2022 match! What time should I arrive? (I am not a member of CVRP and I don't know anyone who is.)
