Yeah. It's Carteret County. What's an interstate?Find a CB shop at one of the Interstate truck stops. Best $20 spent to tune the antenna and check everything.
Been near 30 years since I had a CB. My daughter got me one for my Suburban. I'm in Carteret county. Trying to find someone for a radio check...

HAHA!
Ok, ok, you're right. I'm not the one who lives in BFE.
There's not one VHF radio shop in the area? The testing equipment for VHF radios might be able to handle CB tuning.
CB is largely dead. Around here you rarely even hear truckers anymore.
I could hear a couple psychos on channel 6 ranting about something, but they didn't respond to me.

I figured it probably was.
Channel 6 is the "Superbowl Channel". Those guys are somewhere else, don't know where, just know they're not around here. They run ridiculous power and "skip" all across the country. They've rarely got anything to say - it's more of a d1ck shaking contest than anything.
If you ever get in a back up on interstate turn it on to 19. lol First 5 minutes everyone that just turned theirs on will be asking what's wrong and what lane to be in. After about 10 minutes the CB fights start.
Youtube how to tune that CB by make and model. It's not terribly complicated to get one functional. You also need good coax and there are ways to install it that will make a difference, length and how it's run. And you will need a good antenna. There are ways to tune the antenna too. If the CB does not have a way to test SWR you will need a meter. Even better if you can track someone down to tune the CB itself too. Just had mine done and it really helped. I'm receiving about 6-8 miles on the most powerful radios where I run, and I'm getting out about 3-4 miles on mine with just a tune and better antenna.
The CB band used to be the ham radio 11 meter band, which is really good for DX as I understand it. Back when this happened the technology pretty well prohibited the use of VHF which would be much better for CB.Channel 6 is the "Superbowl Channel". Buy a radio like a Lincoln II or an Anytone AT-6666 and increase your distances on both transmit and receive.
