I collect hobbies, so I'd like to add Cerakote application to my list.
What will I need to do it "right".
I've done lot's of Duracoat but I know this is a different ballgame.

Bead blasting setup, air compressor, paint gun, if you wanna be super sterile then maybe a walk-in “tent” type setup for spraying/hanging stuff in, and an oven or kiln. AFAIK that’s the “basic” stuff to do it right.

Oh and a sink or something to do an acetone bath to prep before painting.

I’m sure you have everything you already need Larry. You’ve collected enough hobbies where they spill over onto one another.
I wish someone here would take on a vendor badge that did cerakote. I need a barreled action done

I do have a kiln at the house if you wanna try it out before going all in and buying one.

I am working on it, but not ready for a vendor badge yet

Thanks guys!
A blast cabinet I had thought of but it missed my list, but an acetone sink/vat I hadn't.
I'll have a large compressor in the barn, and room for blasting and cleaning.
I assume that I should build my own oven, with more of a vertical oriented volume.

250 usually. Or 200 for longer, 300 for shorter. My old lady has a pottery kiln. Tall enough for rifle stuff. It was given to her, and I’ve seen some from 300-2k online used. Some people literally just use the kitchen oven.

The biggie is a compressor that can handle the blast cabinet. I have several, but none that can handle that volume. It's on the list though.

Wife has a small one for pottery, but too small for rifle stuff.
I have a few customer friends in the restaurant equipment business that could help me build one that';s a bit more specific to the need.
As long as I know what I need.

@Snal~

@Supra_man_89 has/had a very nice tempering oven he was selling that may work for barreled actions and what not if the temp would adjust low enough, it’s for knife making but had a 48” capacity IIRC.

It may still be listed in the classifieds here, very nice piece of equipment.

Hmmmm? Knife making is also on the list.
Dang I hope I live long enough to fulfill all of these dreams.

As for an area to spray, I saw the setup of the member I mentioned earlier. Think small cubicle but the far wall of the cubicle was a big household air filter and a box fan on the other side pulling air through. It was pretty simple, but apparently worked quite well.

I can picture that....and I can build it.
I wonder how they do the multi-color, like a digital Camo.

If you need a practice gun let me know. I’ve got one that can’t get much worse than it is.

If I remember correctly, @Magdump used an old electric smoker for most of his. He had plenty of fantastic work come out of it. I'm not sure what the internal dimensions were but it would probably be limited to 36" or so length.

Stencil packs.

They have a good bunch of YouTube videos on application I believe.

I sold all that knife making stuff including the heat treat oven but I do know the local cerakote guy here though. He converted a large safe into an oven to cure his work. I’m not sure what he used for a heating element. A pottery kiln might work. I used to see those for sale pretty regularly and for cheaper than Knife oven.
