Anybody here done this himself? I’ve read a few pieces on doing it yourself and watched a few videos, so I should be an expert now, right 😁? I’ve looked around, and 4D Reamer Rental rents the cutter, pilot, and T Handle for $30 for a week. I have an old beater that I’d try first. Anybody done it?

If the cylinders are not shaving brass slivers off you don't need to do it.

But to answer the question, never done it....never really got past seeing chamfered cylinders as a "non problem" demanding a solution.

Thanks, gentlemen. I may give it a try. I’ve owned guns that were chamfered and I liked that little extra ease with speedloaders. May give it a go.

Chamfering the rear of a cylinder, (the mouths) can be tricky w/o the proper tools & stuff.
I shoot revolvers in USPSA competition, and it does aid in speed reloading. I prefer to allow someone with tons of experience AND the tools to do the work. There is a guy here in NC, goes by "DougGuy" on the cast boolit forum, that does the work, does it with a quick turnaround time, AND very reasonable. Especially if you don't want a ruined cylinder.

Now, as for doing the throats in a cylinder, I've done many, and have the proper tools for that. But Doug can also do those as well. He uses a hone instead of a reamer.

Per @contender recommendation I just went ahead and had Doug Phillips chamfer the charge holes on a model 66-8 and a 65-5. He also honed the throats to .3585” on both while he had them. I had him go light on the chamfers, particularly the ejector stars. I’m very pleased with the results. Even just a light chamfer made a big difference in getting a speedloader in the cylinder. Even wadcutters. Honing/reaming the throats made a nice difference in groups, too. I‘d certainly recommend Doug if you want some cylinder work done. Fast turnaround and great communication, too.
