I didn't like the yellow factory wood on the Draco I got, so I decided to sand it down and stain it. However I hate sanding, so I just did enough of it to strip the factory finish rather than make silky perfection, so there's the odd pore visible.
That accomplished, I painted on two coats of neat Cherry Red rit dye, no dilution at all and just painted on with a chipping brush until there was an even colour. Next time I will remember to do this outside, because the little splatters are the devil and it's thin as water.
Once that was on, I gave it a top coat of Minwax Red Oak, which turned out a good bit darker than I expected, but tamed the red from cherry soda to dried blood, like I wanted.
Then a coat of furniture wax that I just applied and will leave to dry until the picatinny rail for the triangle brace arrives.
Definitely better than original piss yellow.
