There was a thread on NCgunowners that I found useful when I moved to NC way back when. It outlined everyone’s experiences with permit wait times.

Maybe others will find it useful

Lincoln County

PPP: applied around Jan 15. Issued March 17. 62 days.

CHP: applied Feb 10. Issued April 12. 61 days.

Note to self, apply for PPP earlier.

(Feel free to add your own wait times!)

I turned in my renewal in late October and have not received it yet on 12April. I have called them twice, and they said it would come eventually.

That's odd if you are in fact in Brunswick

Wifeys and mine both were processed and picked up in under ten days. Mine was about two years ago and hers was two months ago. Both in Cleveland County.

Two different nephews in Cleveland County got their PPPs...one filled out paperwork on a Monday in Jan and had them on that Friday. The other one did paperwork last week of Mar and got his in about two weeks.

Onslow county here, had my PPPs ready in 5 days after I submitted mine I was impressed.

For my Wake County renewal, I applied and paid online the first day I could do so - which has to be within 60 days of expiration. So the 60 days would have been March 13. The first available appointment for required in-person appointment that I was sure I could make was April 16. There might have been some earlier that week, but April 15 week is usually bad for me so I skipped to the 16th.

The in-person was at 11:00, I showed up early, was let in early, and was finished by 10:45. The whole process took less than 5 minutes.

I was told I could carry with my renewal until my new permit came in the mail, but I could not use the old permit to buy a gun after the expiration date. I was told to allow 90 days for receiving the permit, but it was running about 60 days. At 60 days I could be about a month without being able to buy a gun with CHP. That might save me some money in the long run.

I got the call today that it was in the hands of the Brunswick County Sheriff and would be mailed to me this afternoon. From the middle of October to late April is a long time. I suppose I can go buy more guns now.

Applied August 8 2020, fingerprinted December 3rd, got the email today that is it's approved. They're sending out via mail, the wait continues...
