I've said it many times over, while I've shot multiple competition formats, nothing, and I mean nothing, trips the triggers like this one. Nowhere else do you compete as a team against other teams, shooting breakable targets, against the clock with Civil War arms and live ammunition. So the Carolina Region of the North South Skirmish Association is holding a Recruit Skirmish, hosted by our unit- the Palmetto Sharpshooters, where you can try out what we do. There is no cost, but places are limited so respond early to reserve a spot.

Looks like it's going to be a busy day! Looking forward to seeing Windini and Catfish again and anyone else from the CFF who wants to dabble in the "dark side" at the Church of the Holy BlackšŸ˜

A few years ago, maybe 5 or 6, we went to a reenactment at Bennett Place in Durham. My family loved the rifles and cannon fire. But when they started pressing the line and yelling their war cry, "yee yee yee yee...", my sons lost it. They could not stop laughing and we got the stink eye. I don't think we are welcome there anymore lol. Now that they are older--not really any more mature--maybe they can at least hold it in.

This isn't a re-enactment, it's a shooting competition. It might overlap a bit but much like the Cowboy Action matches, it's a little pageantry and a lot of shooting.

I used to reenact back during the 125-130 cycles. The 125th of Gettysburg still holds the record for the largest reenactment ever held in the US. We did Picket's Charge with correct numbers for both sides. But, the North South Skirmish Association isn't a reenactment group. We are all about live fire competition with Civil War era arms.

Man, I hate I missed this! My sons would have loved it. I spent Saturday, Sunday, and all day taking care of a sick 5 year old. Looks like it was a blast.
